“Beer, yes...Spaetzle, yes!”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

We stopped here for a beer and dinner and we were not dissapointed. The beer selection is enormous, and very good. The menu is authentic German food. We could not get enough of the spaetzle with short ribs. The flavors of garlic, tomato, and ribs make a gravy that is simply divine. The spaetzle is just right. We also tried the homemade pierogi, they were good. And the sausage plate with sauerkraut and it was delicious. The crusty elk sausage was our favorite, and the bacon in the sauerkraut was a great idea- I am going to try it at home. Every plate of food I saw go by looked very good. The prices are reasonable, too. This is a don't miss for German fare and good beer.

“A Wunderbar Place in Philly”
Reviewed January 24, 2014

This is a new German eatery in the Old City. It is dark and cozy with the usual Teutonic flair. The menu, of course, carries the usual hearty German grub: sausages, schnitzel and spaetzel - a of it delicious. And no gut German would think of dining without beer, and Bierstube has much to offer, tap and bottles. A wunderbar experience! Nicht wahr.

“Nice selection of beers”

Stumbled upon this place on a recent trip to Philly. Great Octoberfest beers and atmosphere. Even had a cutout of the Hasselhoff for authenticity.

“Great beer selection, great food”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

We stopped in for a quick lunch and a beer and had a great meal. They have hundreds of bottled beers (not just German) and dozens on tap. We tried two different German pilseners on tap and both were excellent. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the beer and steered us in the right direction for our tastes. Food wise, the Winzig Pretzels, the fries and the pierogies were all excellent. The fries were actually the best ones I've ever eaten. I've lived in Germany and this isn't an "authentic" German Kneipe, whatever that means when you are talking about a bar in Philadelphia. But who cares? They are doing their own thing at Bierstube, and it works. If you like (a) beer and/or (b) pub food you will not be disappointed.

“What a great find!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

We happened upon this restaurant while looking for a place to eat where we could sit outside, as we had a dog with us. They have a wide variety of authentic German beer on tap and the waitress's recommendation was delicious!

My son had a hamburger and a pretzel appetizer. All I can say is, "yum!" The adults all ordered short rib spaetzle, and we were so pleasantly surprised with the flavorful dish. My sister even ordered another plate of it , "to go," and she is a very picky eater.

The value was great and the service was impeccable. They were very accommodating to my son's food allergies and modified his meal accordingly.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in the area!
