The food is really good, probably the best Italian food we have had in Philly. The place is nice. The real problem with this restaurant is the noise. We found three groups and it was impossible for me and my husband to exchange any word.

You must order: arancini , ricotta gnocchi / spinach, white truffle butter, brussels sprouts... I always order the specials, but the chicken is out of this world. It is an absolutely amazing restaurant. A must try in Philadelphia

Five of us--all family and four of the five from out of town (Virginia, Michigan and Arizona) had dinner here on a rainy Wednesday night. We picked this restaurant mostly because of TripAdvisor and Yelp reviews.

Arriving at 6:30 p.m., we were somewhat surprised to be the only diners in the place, which made us think that we might not have chosen well. Service was prompt, friendly and knowledgable, so we ordered a selection of items. The ever-changing menu was not large and some of the dishes we had read about we're not available....a disappointment. Two of us had the roasted cauliflower soup (certainly good, but not spectacular), while the remaining three nibbled on smoked almonds, bread, olives and olive oil, all of which were very good.

For mains, two ordered the ricotta gnocchi and praised its lightness and flavor. Two had pasta (orchiette and bucatini); each had different and delicious sauces and both diners were happy campers indeed. One had chicken, which looked a bit dry and overdone until you cut into it and discovered flavorful and succulent meat. It was outstanding.

All agreed that this is just the kind of restaurant we wished we had in our neighborhoods. Ambience is open, light and airy, but still cozy. Service was outstanding throughout. By 7:30, the restaurant came alive with customers and we left at 8:30 and a few newcomers were still arriving in the rain. Would definitely put on the list for a return visit. Cost: just under $40 per person, not including tip, for three appetizers, five entrees, four soft drinks, four desserts and three coffees.

We were visiting relatives and they took us to Ulivo -- their favorite restaurant. Great atmosphere and friendly staff and the place was packed. BYOB. Fabulous appetizers -- mussels and crispy polenta are great and the sides were delicious especially the gnocchi, ziti and escarole. The grilled flat iron steak with arugula and olive tapenade was fantastic! This place is not to be missed!

As a Philadelphian, I am proud of my city and all it has to offer. Ulivo is by far the best restaurant I have ever been to in my great city. The food is absolutely fantastic and the staff was very attentive. The gnocchi are to die for, so make sure your trip includes them!
