Our friends were taking us out to a Turkish resturant, but it was closed for renovations, and the owner sent us to Ubekistan. We were naturally leery and showed up to find a large Saturday crowd without reservations. To our delight the manager seated us at a great table in about 20 minutes, and we enjoyed great tasting, authentic Russian food with generous portions at a modest price. We were only patrons speaking English, and we felt like we had left Philly and stepped into Eastern Europe for the evening.

I would highly reccomend this resturant but be certain to make reservations and ask for indoor seating.

We celebrated Womens' Day at Uzbekistan (a group of 18 women) and enjoyed every minute of it. Timely service and excellent food combined with a very home-like atmosphere made it memorable! The restaurant was packed but all orders came in in a timely fashion without any delays!. The fish shish-kebob, chicken hearts and lamb kebobs are to die for and the famous honey cake completed our meal! Highly recommend for any occasion!

My friend and I went last minute to Uzbekistan's last night, not for Uzbek, but for Russian food. We were fortunate to get a table out in the heated tent on the patio because the restaurant was packed and LOUD! I think we were the only nonRussians there, actually, which indicates to me that if you want real Russian fare, this is the place to be. It is a BYOB, and it looked like everybody had. My friend said that it is possible to order ahead , and have the meal on the table when you arrive. The food was incredibly flavorful. We shared a Chilean Sea Bass Kabob, Mushroom Soup, Korean Carrot salad, and Beef Dumplings, accompanied by a steaming hot loaf of crusty bread, and had leftovers to take home.

A few caveats: Although the food is wonderful, the surroundings are less than stellar. If you anticipate being seated in the tent, be aware that the heat is variable to chilly. The tables and chairs are plastic, so probably not the best place for a romantic dinner. Or klutzy people prone to standing up quickly. :~] Apparently they have a corrupt system of charging their customers service fees, and higher prices than are on the menu. So be aware of that, and check your receipt carefully before you pay.

We stumbled upon this place by pure luck and now go all the time, even had my husband's birthday party there. The meat kabobs are delicious, so is the traditional rice with lamb - plov, potatoes dishes, stuffed cabbage, salads, never had room for desserts but will try one day. Great for families, we always go with kids, or for couples and friends. BYOB. Prices very affordable. Atmosphere is fun and eclectic. For an expat like myself, I love watching the old music shows on tv and the people who seem like they have never left the homeland :)

Six of us arrived with our wine and were seated immediately at the only table left, Many other groups were much larger: 10,12,18. People celebrating births, weddings and birthdays.
The waiter helped us with the menu and we ate and ate and ate. It seems like the food keeps coming. Each dish a different taste and move delicious than the previous. We had soup, salad, shish kabob, chicken, potatoes, vegetables, most of which I couldn't identify with out a translator. They are marked on the menu in both languages. Take a chance and go. You will be quite pleased. Shared a few desserts each big enough for 6! The bill including tip was less than $25 a person. Unbelievable.
