“Terrific little hotel with super staff”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We stayed at the Rittenhouse 1715 for two weekend nights and enjoyed it very much. The staff was polite and helpful at every turn. Our room was street-facing yet quiet, nicely furnished, with a roomy bathroom. The location is second to none, with the delightful Rittenhouse Square nearby. Breakfast was decent, although we tend to get up late so by the time we sat to eat, the pastry and bread selection was rather limited. The smoothie bar is a great plus, although smoothies cost extra. We had a delicious strawberry-mango-orange-pineapple smoothie one morning. Overall, highly recommended.

The Rittenhouse 1715, just around the corner from the square, is a terrific, little gem offering elegant rooms with modern amenities . . . yes, they still provide emory boards and toiletries . . .and include a continental breakfast in a cute french provincial type environs.

I wasn't sure what to expect and was very pleasantly surprised. This quaint and cozy boutique hotel has luxurious rooms with comfortable beds and nice linens. There are two options for breakfast, continental and made to order. We only had the continental which included fresh pastries, fruit, cereal, coffee, tea, etc. Could be improved by offering eggs as well. The staff was excellent! They went out of their way to make sure all of our needs were met with anything from sightseeing to car rental. Since it is so small, you really get personalized attention. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the Old City, historical attractions, but Rittenhouse Square is really nice with lots of great restaurant options and shopping. I would definitely stay at this place again.

This is a hard review for me. The location and the staff are the biggest pros for this hotel. My room was a con and I am sorry to have to write this because I really wanted to love this place. Room 118 is quiet, but it has bars on the windows which look out to piles of garbage and busted up debris. The other window has a view of an alleyway, through the bars. The room also has an extremely loud a/c unit which impacts your stay because it is constant white noise and when you turn it off, one is amazed at the peace...but it gets to hot in the summer. The bathroom door is frosted, so light pours into the bedroom - not ideal for a small room.

The bathroom is actually quite nice and all of the linens are of the highest quality.

The complimentary breakfast has good coffee. There is not much to report beyond that.

It is very much like a bed and breakfast so be prepared to talk to people as you come and go and for them to know when you are in your room and not etc..., its cozy and welcoming for some while other prefer a more anonymous stay.

All in all, the place is very clean and the service is impeccable. There are many little details that they do get right which is why I would say this is a ''very good hotel''. Hope that helps.

Room Tip: I think a suite would be good or a room off of the floor.

The two best things about this hotel are the location and the helpful staff.
It's located in a great neighborhood, though not close to the usual tourist sites like Independence Hall. There are some really great restaurants within easy walking distance, and Rittenhouse Square is a good place to spend some time listening to the music and watching the people.
The hotel staff were very good in helping to plan the trip.

I have stayed there several times. Very clean. Convenient location. Quiet. The staff is accommodating. I have a concern about the security, as the lobby was not manned at all times. While this area of Philadelphia is relatively safe, it is unrealistic to leave the lobby unmonitored.

The breakfast is two tiered: a complimentary breakfast and one cooked to order. The complimentary breakfast does not provide boxed cereal, oatmeal, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, orange juice or hot tea. It provides coffee, bagels, sweet rolls and fruit. I did not observe anyone making use of the a la carte breakfast but perhaps that is more likely to be seen on the weekends. I believe that the hotel should be able to provide hot tea, boxed cereals, yogurt and hard-boiled eggs as part of the complimentary breakfast. Guests shouldn't have to venture elsewhere for a reasonable choice at breakfast.

Room Tip: Although the rooms facing the street are ordinarily quiet (the hotel is on a quiet side street), you...

Thank you so very much for choosing to be a frequent guest of ours! We appreciate your willingness to share your positive and not so positive experiences while staying at our hotel. While I understand your concern, security at our hotel is if utmost importance. If you'd like more of an in depth explanation as to how we run our security operation- please contact the hotel manager Daniel Gioiso and reference this review and response- he will be glad to articulate our commitment to safety. As for our breakfast- (hot tea, and cold cereal) are all apart of our European complimentary breakfast. In fact, we source very highest quality pastries from the cities most acclaimed bakery. And, we source very high quality teas for complimentary purposes. We invite you to come back so that we may serve you again with heart and first class hospitality.

We stayed two nights for a little getaway. This hotel is in the perfect location for all that we want to do. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. We didn't eat the breakfast because we were able to sleep late for the first time in a long time and that was worth skipping breakfast. There is a parking lot across the street for only $33/day (reasonable for the city). The men and women at the front desk were very nice. They would give directions and if they didn't know, they looked it up for you. There were two thing that bothered me and probably wouldn't bother anyone else- The hallways smelled of cleaning products(not such a bad thing) and the pocket door between the bed and bath was frosted glass which when I turned the light on in the middle of the night, flooded the bedroom with light and woke my husband up. But all in all I would definitely come back!!
