Went to the Twisted Tail this past weekend with family. The place has two floors; first for the main restaurant, the second for music. There's bars on both floors. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. Twisted Tail's menu is interesting with a lot of dishes you wouldn't find elsewhere....a surprising amount of comfort food mixed with some exotic choices. It's a bourbon bar, so they have a large selection of that. Our waitress was extremely knowedgable on the bourbons, which was really helpful since we were novices.
Decor is minimal, a little on the dark side. Noise level is OK, the place was full, but we never got to the point where you had to shout to be heard. Prices for food are surprisingly good, but the drink prices are fairly standard for this part of Philly.
One note, not a criticism but more of a heads up. You can't hear the band upstairs when you're downstairs. That's good in a way...but we got caught sorta hanging around downstairs until we thought we should head up to hear the group. By that time the band had already been playing and there was no more seats. So, if you're thinking of taking advantage of both a meal and the band, just keep that in mind.
The staff went out of their way to be friendly on our way out. The manager stopped by our table during the meal to check on us. The people there seem to sincerely like working there.
We will go again, and we strongly recommend the Twisted Tail for a fun and tasty night out.

Not only will you delight in yummy, inventive twists on traditional low country/southern/soul food, you will also be immsrsed in the most lively, friendly atmosphere!

We were so impressed with this place that we bypassed our usual Philadelphia favorites and took all our dinner here!

Meals included Shrimp and Grits (A. Maz. Ing!) chicken Fried Steak (generous portion of tender steak with tasty, crunchy breading) and Chicken in a Bag (yum!)

Other standouts were the brussel sprouts and swwet potato fries. Oh! the textures, the fllavors!

Add, Adre and Nas, the most warm, wecoing hosts ever, a conscientious wait staff...hustling ad grinning!

This truky was an enjoyable diniing experience!

delightful and creative (though a bit che) pairing of drinks, and food in little flavorful packs. The host was an awesome personality (truly a treasure) and even another waiter was kind enough to tell me i had tp in my heel before I went back to the table - classic, but awesome!

Saturday night on South Street and we were surprised this place was not packed! Once the world finds out about this little treasure, we'll be fighting for a table. The four of us each started off with a different bourbon, so we could taste the broadest range of bourbons. There selection is the best around including bourbons you can't usually find around Philadelphia. We started off with the mussels appetizer which was flavorful and cooked well. We continued with an order of the chef's special chicken shank, two pork belly entrees, and the beef cheeks. Everything was SO delicious that we shared all our plates! We had another round of bourbon and even tried the fudge brownie (super rich!) and shortcake desserts! Our service was great and we thoroughly enjoyed our time. We will be back!

We were walking by and it look nice so we decided to go in and were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good. We started with the pork tacos, which had a nice fresh taste with sour cream and watermelon, very nice. Also had the crawfish mac and cheese - out of this world, very creamy and the seafood was fresh and added a nice component to the dish. For main course we shared an order of their ribs. Grilled to perfections with a nice smokey flavor - of the best I have had. I highly recommend this place. It has casual atmosphere but very good food.
