Description: Sonny's is known for its authentic, award-winning Philly Cheesesteaks just a few blocks from the Liberty Bell and National Constitution Center in the heart of historic Old City, Philadelphia. Sonny's is continually ranked number one on Philly Cheesesteak top ten lists, notably by GQ in 2014. We care about our sandwiches. We use 100% fresh Angus beef and slice it fresh every morning (most places order it sliced). Each sandwich is individually prepared to order (versus the now common practice of producing a batch of sandwiches at once). That's why both tourists and locals frequent Sonny's -- it's real, it's genuine, and it's delicious. Sonny's Cheesesteaks is in downtown Philly, convenient to hotels and sightseeing hubs. Tour groups and school groups flow in and out of local hotspot. We provide discounts to groups that book in advance on our website. We also have discounts for US Military, police officers, students and more! We pride ourselves on our friendliness. We love newcomers and are eager to teach folks everything and anything about cheesesteaks. Don't get nervous ordering, and please, ask questions! Sonny's is the real deal Philly cheesesteak experience -- and it's easy to get to by foot, cab, or subway (SEPTA 2nd Street Station). Feel free to call for directions or check online.

Ordered the steak with onions, sweet peppers, and the Whiz. Delicious. Great bread. Service was fast, and entertaining. Even got lucky and got an outside seat. Everyone has their favorite cheesesteak joint, and while this isn't the best I've had, it was pretty good, so if you're in the area looking for a fix, stop by, and I doubt you'll be disappointed.

After hearing about how Pat's and Geno's are very touristy, decided to head to Sonny's for a cheesesteak while in Philly this weekend. So glad we did! Being a California native, I am not going to pretend that I know a "true cheesesteak" but I can tell you that this is a darn good, yummy, delicious one! I broke tradition and ordered mine with American instead of wiz, got the onions, and added peppers. It was perfect. The bread was soft and fresh, the meat was of excellent quality, the cheese melted all throughout, and the peppers added a nice balance of flavors. They do make the "classic" which looked good too. If you are in the Independence National Park area this is a fantastic option for a cheesesteak!

“Ask the locals, Very Good”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

We asked a Duck Tour employee where to find great cheese steak and she said Sonny's. We took the brief walk (also nice for getting us just outside the main tourist enclave of Independence center). Sandwiches were great, service was great. A grade on Sonny's from us.

“Great cheesesteak”

We were visiting Philadelphia for a short time and wanted a cheesesteak but were not going to make it to Pat's and Geno's. We were visiting Christ Church and happened upon Sonny's. I remembered it from the Frommer's Philadelphia guide, so we decided to try it. So glad we did! I've had three cheesesteaks in Philly and this was the best so far. The staff was friendly and helpful too.

The place was very small, but the cheese steak was excellent. Very close to our hotel and the old historic district. We were able to walk there and get right in.
