Club Quarters Hotel in Philadelphia

Stayed two nights on a last minute trip to Philly. Location was great, but that's the only thing I really liked. Make sure you park in the "right" garage to get a discount. If you arrive during the week by car, park and then walk with your luggage, there is no where to stop and check in. Overpriced for what it is, despite location. TV in room was not in the bedroom, not sure who thought that would be a good idea. Clean if you need a place to crash for the night but not impressed.

We made reservations just a few weeks before we checked in, drove there and reserved parking - parking is not free.

One major problem, seemed to be common, plastic card/keys did not work, in elevator, or for room entry, and we had to be rekeyed five times , that's five times in 15 minutes, then twice after dinner. this was frustrating at first, then was a joke, and then finally corrected.

The lobby is on the second floor, there is no entrance from the street and parking to unload luggage is a real pain. After unloading, if there are two of you, and there are NO bell hops at all, one must drive around the corner to park in a underground garage, and then walk back to the hotel, or park, then drag your bags back to the hotel. Get the parking receipt validated for hotels discount at once, then check in. The reverse is the same, only, you drag your own luggage to the garage.

The lobby is nothing to brag about, décor wise, there is a snack bar, complimentary for guests, we never went to it, and beyond it are the two cramped elevators. The lobby has a huge skylight, which was nice, and some comfy chairs.

Our room was sort of dark, even with lights on. TV some stations came in clearly, others fuzzy- TV small, not LCD or plasma, stuck high on the wall. No real desk, only one night table, no fridge and NO SAFE, no real closet. Bath small but very nice, like a cruise ships bathroom. Bath amenities are Gilchrist and Soames, a chic label, nice quality. USA made!

In the hall next to one of the two elevators are free never used plastic bottles to fill with iced filtered water, nice. There is a linen closet to get more pillows and blankets from, complimentary. Ice and ice buckets on 12th floor only. Here when you want room cleaning, you call the desk. No waiting for clean towels or dirty trays in the hall. nice room service food menus.

All told, for a low rate, room and hotel ok.

The star here, DAVIOS, the excellent restaurant, a branch from the famed one in Boston, we had full breakfast here once, continental twice (only continental on weekends), and I must say, that for a continental breakfast, at $10.00 each, it was way better than most offered in higher end hotels for a much higher price. The full breakfast was excellent, truly first rate in every respect.

We had dinner at DAVIOS twice it was so wonderful, and the cocktails were exceptional, exceptional and fairly reasonable wine list as well.

A little comparo- we had one dinner at hotel Soffitel, in their "fine" restaurant, and it was way over priced, the drinks were lousy, the food not very good and the service stunk. And the lobby and bar and restaurant there was filled with fruit flies. Not nice at all.

We will stay at Club Quarters again, it is really a good deal, and DAVIOS is the greatest.

Room Tip: If you do not stay at this hotel dine at DAVIOS, it was open for lunch as well as dinner.

I decided to visit Philadelphia and I stayed at the Club Quarters hotel on Chestnut Street. It is perfectly located, a street away fom the main street, not very far from the subway. I stayed in one of their smallest and cheapest room but it was clear, quiet and very comfortable. I really enjoyed it. The staff was very helpful. It is within walking distance of the main attractions and the area is very nice.

Well, I found the rooms chrostophobic, Rooms are way too small. Clearly they had divided the original rooms in to small box rooms. Most windows do not open and were locked shut. Short of fresh air. The windows which did only open 4 inches. Air conditioning system kicks in and out with a big noise. There are roof top fans outside building were noisy too. The whole thing was far too noisy for me. However, great location in the city . Staff were friendly. They moved me a few times to find a better room. Staff worked hard to please.

Club Quarters is a good value for its location in central Philly. We were assigned the wrong room (two doubles instead of queen), went back to the desk and change was made quickly. We noticed a pool of water in the top desk drawer and told front desk about it on our way out for the evening, six hours later upon our return, it was still there.
No surplus of amenities in the room, e.g., no iron, shower stall only. However the basics were there. Mattress was on the hard side, pillows were fluffy with no support. No on-site parking, there is a garage about 1/2 block away that the hotel will give you a discount on. For an awesome 24 hour dining option, travel down 17th for a couple of blocks to Little Pete's - great food, friendly service and unbeatable prices!
All in all, it is a affordable hotel in downtown Philly, if you want luxury and opulence, this is not the place for you.

I stayed at Club Quarters as part of an online package with a very reasonable price. I knew the accomodations would be 'ok' ( I am not a fussy traveler), but I was pleasantly surprised to see what a find Club Quarters was. It was great. My room, although small, had everything I needed. It was quiet and very comfortable with coffee and tea. There was a purified water dispenser on each floor with recyclable bottles ( Bravo, management!) In the lobby, you could make a latte or cappuccino (free) whenever your heart desired. There is a Davio's Restauaunt attached, which I did not try, but my friends did and they had a lovely meal. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The location is terrific! Walking distance in any direction to things of interest. Best coffee cafe " in the country" is just a few blocks away ( another review!) Will recommend highly to travelers.

A few years ago I stayed at this place, and had a mixed experience, this is why I did not have many expectations. I have to say that the place exceeded all my expectations, and it seems it had a major renovation since my last time here.

There are a few things I REALLY liked about the place.
First, there are empty plastic bottle that you can filled with purified water (I used the sparkling water in the lobby). Great idea!
The place has in the lobby some light snacks in the afternoon, and coffee and sodas all day. Yes another plus!

I had the superior room, which was fairly large, with a nice work space and a kitchenette (which I never used, since there was always coffee in the lobby)

The place has a nice fitness room and also a washer and dryer. (The dryer takes forever to dry, but nothing is perfect)

When you step out of the hotel, you are in the center of downtown Philly a block from the park, and on one of the main avenue. (The only minor issue is that the lobby is on the second floor, and when you enter you need to immediately take an elevator, but this is not a real issue)

Getting to U Penn was very easy, using the buses (21 and 42) that stopped on Walnut (to Upenn) and on Chestnut (from Upenn).

Definitely a place I am looking to return to next time I am in Philly.
