“Great Sales”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

we stopped in for a quick picture with the eagle and of the organ pipes. But ended up back to school shopping with such great sales prices and the 10% off coupon in the city guide.

“You must see the organ”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

Went into this store to see it because it was such a beautiful building. There was an organist playing the mostreous organ that goes up like 5 stories tall. It was unbelievable! The store was very clean, lots of selection, and very fun to see!

“Shop in an Historic Landmark”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

The Macy's store in Center City is located on 3 floors of the famed Wanamaker building.
This beautiful landmark was home to the John Wanamaker department store from it's opening in 1911 until 1995 when Wanamaker's was sold to the May Company. Prior to 1987 the building had 10 selling floors, and several mezzanine floors. In 1987 the building was sold to a developer who retrofitted the upper floors as office space, and the 9th floor Crystal Room was restored as a private catering hall.

Today, Macy's operates on the first 3 floors of this palace, and features some of the famed Wanamaker traditions. Year round, daily organ concerts are held in the grand court, and the Wanamaker Organ is listed as the worlds largest. Seasonal attractions include the Christmas Light Show, Dickens Village, and the springtime Flower Show. One tradition that is lacking is an in-store restaurant, but there is a Starbucks on the Street Floor.

The store itself is a full line Macy's, sans furniture, and the layout of the departments provide a glimpse to what shopping once was like in the grand stores of yesterday. If you value the traditions that Macy's has maintained, you should also take some time to shop here.

“Go take a look”

This is a fabulous Art Deco building, the main area goes up 3 stories and the organ is spectacular. We popped back in for the organ recital in the evening which is worth doing if you are near by.

“Pop in if you have the time”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

It is a Macy's. If you want to shop go for it. We went to see the World's Largest Pipe Organ. I don't think my hubby was too excited about my want to see this until he got there. It was like walking back in time to days before malls. Art deco style and the building inside reminded me of the store Ralphie goes to see Santain "A Christmas Story." We got there and they were playing the organ which is a huge sound. The big eagle staute is right there on the bottom floor but some old guy had made a home underneath it's head so he can look and listen to the organ. So all of our pictures have him right smack dab in the middle. *jerk* Is it something to schedule in your itenerary? No. If you are in the area of City Hall it's just right there and we spent like 5 minutes there, but glad we did get to see and hear the organ.
