“Splendid atmosphere, good food”
Reviewed December 19, 2012

English-style pub provides atmosphere that appears different in each room of this multistory restaurant. First time for a cask beer was a pleasant surprise. Definitely worth a return.

“Pretty pub...but I wanted a real English pub”
Reviewed December 18, 2012

On appearance alone Dandelion is a very authentic English Pub, right down to the carpeting and fixtures. High hopes were soon dashed. I had two different beers one cask conditioned, the other on draft, each of which was completely flat. I tried a third, which was also totally flat. I know beer having visited many a good pub and the beer here was not properly poured and not good quality in the cask or the keg. Very disappointing as I was hoping for more than the appearance of an English pub.

Appetisers: The Bluepoint Oysters were "garnished" with chopped up bits of apple on them! Now there is a pretentious twist one doesn't see every day. The Jonah Crab Claws were chopped up into an egg salad served in a cute caning jar.

Mains: The $19.50 (yes you read that right) Fish and chips were OK, fish a bit too greasy, chips were OK. Again a cutesy serving on a wooden cutting board with the chips in a chrome cup. My wife had a coke. Bill was over $100. It really wasn't worth it. We won't be back.

“holy delicious food in an unusual homey setting”
Reviewed December 12, 2012 via mobile

I went here with some girlfriends for restaurant week (I think it was September) and I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious food here!! had duck pâté to start with mini gherkins and toast, then a braised rib shepherd pie with mashed potatoes and cheese melted on top. one of the most incredible things I've ever eaten. then another incredible dish, the toffee pudding for dessert. the price was certainly right, as this was a fixed price menu for restaurant week, not sure what the pricing is like on a normal day but I will surely be coming back!! the atmosphere is warm and cozy, with very friendly staff!

“Gluten Free Comfort Food with a British Accent”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

I absolutely love this place. I'm really not a big fan of dining out, I'd much prefer staying in with Thai carry out, but The Dandelion is a proper exception. Birthday? The Dandelion. Friends from out of town? The Dandelion (or Parc right down the street, but that's another review). Happy Hour? The Dandelion. The atmosphere is downright cozy, filled with that fireplace smell even when there isn't even a fire in the fireplace. Lots of dark wood and Victorian-esque black and white prints, unless you're upstairs in the dog room (lots of dogs, plaid, and English country home charm). The menu is a Celiac's dream, over half of it can be modified so it's gluten free (but not the Shepherd's Pie, which my husband tells me is fantastic). And I'd recommend that even non-celiacs forego the bread with the house-made ricotta - seriously, it's so good, and life is short, just eat it with a spoon. The cocktails are original and feel more like healing tonics than cocktails (there's one with rosewater, honey and scotch that I tried to replicate when I was coming down with a cold). The dessert menu changes every so often,. but right now there's a lemon curd, berry, and merengue concoction called an Eton mess that I can only describe as a lemon merengue pie for people who never thought they liked lemon merengue pie.

Is it a little on the pricey side? Sure, it can be, if, like me, you're unable to go without ordering an appetizer, meal, drinks, dessert, and coffee. Totally, totally worth it though.

“What ambiance!”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

If you're interested in a British ambiance, this restaurant is THE place! The decorating details add so much to the delicious food experience, and at a reasonable cost. The bar area is perfect for a before meal cocktail.
