“Important historical portraits, but pretty bland presentation”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

One gets a sense of historical importance while strolling through aisle after aisle of 18th century portraits, after all these Founding Fathers sacrificed immensely for our freedom. There's a very thorough representation of these (mostly) men in terms of portraiture, however their contributions and sacrifices are not celebrated in a context that can hold your attention very long.

I can see kids and teens being bored out of their skulls here.

“You can skip it”
Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

It is a small portrait gallery, with nothing to do with the building's history. The Park Ranger made it fun for my son with a scavenger hunt.

“Lots of history, not the most interesting exhibit.”
Reviewed July 21, 2013 via mobile

This place is definitely worth a visit for history buffs. While I felt it interesting to read and see many faces of the revolution you barely hear about in school or in history books, the conveying of information was dry and a bit overwhelming. My wife and I are in our twenties and very much enjoy history, but found this place boring. Children will probably have a tough time maintaining interest and discerning relevance. There is a resource center as you walk that has two interactive computers for audio descriptions and painting locators.

“Bank and portrait gallery!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013 via mobile

A guide at the Liberty Bell recommended that we check out the Second Bank/ Portrait Gallery and we were not disappointed.

Yet another free exhibit in the historical section of Philly, this was a great place to see the thinkers who challenged the conventional wisdom of the time - Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, etc.

It is also an architecturally interesting building, since it used to be the Second bank.

“Free, great, don't overlook!”
Reviewed June 27, 2013 via mobile

This is one of the few Federal Portrait Galleries. You may easily walk right past it - not as much hype as other sites within view. A collection of portraits of forefathers including George Washington. Interesting history of the architecture was told by city tour. Free and no lines!
