Owner description: Founded in honor of America’s first scientist, Benjamin Franklin, The Franklin Institute is one of America’s oldest and premier centers of science education. The museum is known for blockbuster exhibits, a bevy of interactive ongoing exhibitions, and one-of-a-kind theatrical experiences. Today, the Institute continues its dedication to public education and creating a passion for science by offering new and exciting access to science and technology in ways that would dazzle and delight its namesake.

I have been to FI countless times. I always enjoy it, always find flaws, and always learn something.
Pompeii was the traveling exhibit. It was informative and left me wanting to know even more. The displays of beautiful art are wonderful and tell a lot about the people who lived there, the story of what happened is well told, the casts of the bodies have tremendous impact. I would have liked to have learn more about the archeology of exhuming this city and some points of the display were very tightly laid out and too crowded.

The standard exhibits are mostly interesting and insightful. The building is very unique and a special place. Electricity, weather and the trains are well done. The heart was once the most amazing thing ever but kids still seem to appreciate it despite its low tech approach.

The sports room was once cool but now looks like a day care center and almost everything in the space section was broken or dull. I am certain it takes millions and millions of dollars to maintain this type of museum so I happily forgive the negatives.

It is a wonderful place to visit if you have the time to go. The only problem is that the kids run rampid and do not mind interrupting you if you are working an exhibit. They can be rude and impolite. So what should have been a 2 hr visit was longer than that. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this institute, especially the giant heart/hesrt dissection exhibits!

This Museum was by no means a bad museum, it just wasn't anything special. We found a lot of the displays didn't work properly or didn't work at all. Also, a lot of the displays and activities there are mostly for children...so if you're going with children, it will keep them entertained and they'll have a good time. It's okay for adults who are looking for something to do for a couple of hours, as there are some good and interesting things there...but if you miss this museum, you won't miss much.

I visited FI yesterday, driving from Baltimore with my wife, with fond
memories of visits in my youth. What a colossal disappointment!

This is a playground for miscreants, not a museum.

Hordes of screaming, ill-behaved children running around, poorly
supervised, while the staff stands around looked bored.

The exhibits weren't well maintained, and there was no organized flow
to the structure of the museum.

Thank goodness after 20 minutes of this mayhem, we were able to obtain
a refund.

Never again!!!

No kids with us, but the interactive experiences and the variety (earth, space, planes, trains, and so much more) make this a must see while in Philadelphia. We had to rush, but would love to go back sometime. Only negative, there are some things that cost once you get inside.
