We visited on a rainy friday afternoon in july. The quality of the displays was good but there were a lot of broken displays.

The biggest problem were the summercamp groups. There were at least 25 different big summercamp groups in the permanent exhibitions with very few group leaders and very few families. I would have been very ashamed if I was one of the group leaders. The groups were running around, shouting and screaming and even pushing our kids. There were long lines everywhere. The bathrooms were extremely filthy. We enjoyed the National Geographic foto exhibition.

I had not been to the Franklin Institute since my children were young. I went back recently with my grandchildren. It was a wonderful experience. My five year old grandson greatly enjoyed the Sports section. There were many hands on activities and stations with special projects like paper-making. The giant heart was also a favorite as it had been with my daughter years ago. We did not do the IMAX theater or the special exhibits -- there was so much to do we easily filled 3 hours.
Definitely recommend it especially children ages 5 to l0.

Please take your kids here. It was the best money we spent!! Lots of things for kids to do, touch and learn. The giant heart, the sports room and the spy exhibit were our favorites. It is not a place for grownups alone. Too many kids around!

Aside form the Imax theater this place is really showing its age. In each section there are a number of broken exhibits. This place does not know if it wants to be a kids museum or a adult museum and fails at both. I can't think of one thing that this place has that you have to see

The Franklin Institute is a great "hands-on" museum, similar to Baltimore's Maryland Science Center, and is even bigger and possibly a bit better.

Admission runs $16.50 for adults and $12.50 for children, for the main museum displays. There are extra charges for the changing special exhibit, iMax movies, and extra activities like the Sky Ride. But, the standard admission will provide for close to four hours off interesting educational presentations and activities. Well worth the price of admission. Onsite parking will run an additional $9.00 to $15.00, located in an underground garage, with elevator access directly to the admission desk.

Aside from the quality exhibits, one other aspect stands out: the extremely friendly and helpful staff. They are simply exceptional.
