Owner description: A colorful outdoor market specializing in Italian foodstuffs.
Reviewed January 1, 2013

The Italian market has been there for years, but I believe it is a shadow of itself now. Lots of Chinese merchants selling tshirts and socks dilutes the experience. There are a few butcher and cheese shops to visit. Parking is a nightmare, the place is dirty and run down with many abandoned shops. Skip it and go to Reading Terminal market. It is awesome.

This is a great place to just walk around and shop for fresh food. There are store specializing in cheese, pork, game, etc. Plenty of places to eat. My personal favorite is Lorenzo's at 9th and Christian Sts. Great cheese steaks and pizza.

went there with my boyfriend who is Italian...we weren't very impressed. I've been to an Italian market street in NY and thought that was way better

My husband kept telling me about the "Italian Market" so I was really anxious to come here. I've been throughout Europe and always enjoy this type of marketplace. Well, he hadn't been there for 30 years and it was no longer the Italian Market of years past. In fact, "International Market" would be a better description as the shops were a mixture of Mexican, Asian and Italian. Although there appeared to be a few nice Italian Delis, most of the shops were Asian. Overall, the marketplace was very trashy and smelly. The streets were littered with garbage and graffiti on the walls. I certainly wouldn't eat anything from here nor would buy any of the cheap crap sold in the trashy stores. I will not return.
