I've lived in this area for years and passed these works of art numerous times. But when I visited the Magic Gardens and took the tour, I felt like a new world opened up for me! And my niece (10) and nephew (7) were enthralled. They've been back once since and have plans to go again...to show more of their friends! I've sent 2 other families that also live nearby and everyone agrees: amazing!

Come on-you're going to visit South St, whether its to stop at Whole Foods or CVS or to see the 'local color' of the area. Don't miss this shiny gem while you're there!

We had a great experience at the Magic Gardens. We went on the 1.5 hour tour on July Fourth, and it was absolutely worth it. Our guide, Adam, was knowledgeable and gave us a good idea of Isaiah's background and history with the community. The museum was like walking into a surrealistic, 3D dada space. As visitors to Philadelphia, I really thought the walk gave us insight to a part of Philadelphia that can't be gleaned from books. Isaiah, a classically trained artist, uses a myriad of materials (bottles, tiles, ceramics, etc.) to make his murals. Most of his murals are a tribute to the community and the environment. The Four Seasons murals, by David Guinn, that see you along the way were also very cool. I highly recommend this museum and tour!

After an article on the Philadelphia Magic Gardens appeared on our newspaper, for our upcoming New England trip (and a stop in Philadelphia), we decided it might be fun to see. It was more than fun. Isaiah Zagar has built two lots of broken tile and glass bottle walls, stairs, hidden alcoves, and South American art from his travels. Although it is absolutely gorgeous (and mighty picture worthy!), if you have young children, be aware that there is some naked paintings, murals, and art, as well as some questionable passages written on a tile or two. But over all, it is worth the trip!

Captivating, moving, and takes you somewhere far from where your head was when you first entered. And worth the price!
