“Modern Hotel”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

Stayed at the Le Merdien Philadelphia for one night. This is the second time here. It is a very modern hotel. The inside of the hotel has the orginal bricks from the original building. It look very nice. The rooms are small but the bathroom was large with a shower only. I am a SPG Platnuim so the internet was free but runs normally for $9.99 which is cheaper then most hotels. There is no coffee in the room and the water is $3.00 even for SPG members.

The location of the hotel is relatively convenient to SEPTA train system and easily walkable to Reading Terminal. Other areas of interest might be a longer walk or bus or taxi ride. All in all, we found it convenient. There is construction going on immediately next door and, in general, the area looks unimpressive. Inside, however, the hotel has style, in particular with the central atrium. We liked our room, though it was a bit stuffy/funky when we first checked in. We called down and someone w/ a spray to remove/refresh the smell was sent, and then we were fine. Room service was decent.

Top notch, hip hotel in a great location of downtown Philly. Close to museums, city hall, and Reading Terminal Market; all within a short walking distance. Service excellent, although room service food was a bit disappointing. We did have some food from the lobby bar that was very good, though. Rooms clean, modern and bed very comfortable. Highly recommend!

We did a long weekend in Philadelphia recently and this hotel, booked through Hotwire, really went beyond our expectations. Super comfortable bed, good size bath/bedroom, and great location. As a Starwood member, we got a free drink at the bar and the lobby/bar/bartender are very hip and cool. We went to check out the Barnes Foundation Art Museum which is a must see (do the docent tour) and Reading Terminal Market, Liberty Bell etc. Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: choose one facing the city hall or park, rather than the inside of the hotel or near the elevator

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights (Dec 25th-26th, 2012) and were highly impressed with the accommodation, friendly staff, cleanliness and decor of the hotel. We were 2 families travelling and had 2 connecting rooms. It is amazing how they converted a heritage building to this top notch hotel. The rooms were spacious and right next to the City Hall and other attractions. The check in was smooth, the staff were very pleasant.

The parking is valet and pretty expensive because of its downtown location. We parked in nearby garages at a lower rate.

Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Philadelphia.

Room Tip: Higher floors and corner rooms appear to be bigger. Since this is converted from an existing buildin...

Great location, decent size bedroom and bathroom.
We found the hotel is clean, neat and tidy, no complaint at all.
Comfortable bed, clean bathroom with modern retro concept.
Our bedroom facing city hall which is a plus point for us.

Only chair in room a stool type desk chair. Room was pitch black when I opened the door before I could locate the lights and then I discovered I had been checked in to an occupied room.

No real guide to hotel services. Not a single word about restaurant only room service and when I inquired about restaurants in the area they didn't even mention the one in the hotel.

Room was attractive, bed was so so. Would not stay again.

Room Tip: No swimming pool, saw something about a spa next door. Got an interior room and it was quiet.

Peggy,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Your feedback will help to ensure we better serve you and all our guests in the future.

I am glad you enjoyed an attractive and quiet room. Please allow me to apologize that we missed a couple of opportunities to serve you better. I would appreciate if you would contact me with your dates of stay, so that I can fully investigate why you were checked into an occupied room.

We do offer a hotel guide to services, though it is in a non traditional way, located as an insert in the discovery envelop that was on the bed. Many of our rooms do offer a chair in addition to the desk chair. If you decide to visit again, I will do everything possible to ensure you receive a room with a very comfortable chair.

Traveler Tip – there is a pool (one of the first indoor pools ever built in North America) located in the building inside Sweat Gym. This gym is available to hotel guests at a discounted daily rate for anyone who desires a full service gym with indoor running track. The pool is more lap/fitness oriented and not really a lounge/family type pool. Discounted day passes are available from the front desk. Of course the hotel has its own fitness centre that is complimentary.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Regards,
Evan
