Owner description: This $522 million convention center has 440,000 square feet of exhibit space. Its draw, however, is more than its function; elegant on the outside and, in the inside, marvelously adorned with works by 52 artists, a flying design of steel and aluminum tubes spanning 70,000 square feet, a façade of the old Reading Railroad terminal and a 37 foot rotating electric guitar.

We attended the Philadelphia flower show at the PA convention center at 12th and Arch. It was convenient to downtown, easy to come and go as we pleased and lots of restrooms and vendors. The building is modern and had lots of seating in the one area off the entrance. The flower show was spectacular and made it all the better to have it in a well lite, well organized building. We took a charter bus trip to the flower show and the buses have an easy access for pick up right at the entrance to the building. Very well planned.

We've been going to the flower show for the past ten years or so. Always a treat, and always something new. We just got back from our visit to this year's show, named "Brilliant", which has a British theme. The central feature is a replica of Big Ben which does show the current time in addition to providing a nice "show" at each hour (I won't divulge what happens in the show, you have to see it). The layout this year seemed more open, with more walking space between exhibits than usual. If you have ever attended, you know that the crowds are horrendous (but everyone gets along nicely). You really need most of a day if you plan on seeing every exhibit AND visiting every vendor. Always lots to buy! Note that there is more to see than what is in the main exhibit halls, so be sure to visit the Grand Hall Concourse and the Grand Hall. For food, you can visit the Reading Terminal Market across the street, but that really deserves a day by itself. Plenty to eat at the show -- we visited the London Bridge Cafe in the Grand Concourse and got some bangers and London Broil done up on crusty rolls. A wonderful time!

Yesterday I returned to the Philly Convention Center for the fourth time to attend the Philadelphia Flower Show. The convention center is in an excellent dowtown location with the Reading Terminal Market (indoor food hall - market combo) across the street, Chinatown within walking distance, stores and many restaurants and hotels nearby. The Convention Center itself is spacious, as expected, with many clean bathrooms, clear directional signage, clean throughout and helpful staff.

Went for the Black Tie Tail Gate Auto Show. It was huge, amazing, and very comfortable. Wear your walking shoes if you are going to see an exhibit here. Very, very nice, but large.

This was my second time here. The size of the convention center is too hard to describe.. you have to see it! The lobby has some type of sculpture at the ceiling (it sort of looks like tracks to a roller coaster) of a hugh room that is so big it is hard to get an idea of the size. It is connected to the Downtown Mariott by an overpass so we did not have to go outside to get in. This was great since we were there for a dance competition and had a lot of costumes and bags to bring over every day. There is plenty of room for the dancers to have lunch on their break. The food market is about a 5 minute walk so it was easy to bring lunch over. There is a Dunkin Donuts, Hard Rock and a sports bar inside too. There seemed to be enough bathrooms that I did not see a line of girls waiting. The only thing that bothered me is that the garbage piled up in the dressing rooms during the day. They should have emptied them our more often. Otherwise a great place to attend an event.
