Visited during summer school holidays - hot day, amazing array of animals. My grandson loved the reptile house, loved the tigers. The enclosures were very suitable for their guests ! A well planned, well care for zoo easy - makes a brilliant day out. Don't miss it !

“Philadelphia Zoo - Philadelphia, PA”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

We visited the Philadelphia Zoo in July 2014. The Zoo is located very close to downtown Philadelphia, making it an easy stop of any trip to this historic city.

The Zoo itself is small compared to other cities (San Diego and Chicago’s Brookfield), but smaller does not mean worse. We really enjoyed the way the Zoo was laid out and the ease of which it could be walked. The only beef I had was that there could be more signs within the Zoo telling you what you would see straight ahead or if you turned. But that’s pretty nitpicky. The animals were quite active. We especially enjoyed the big cat area where lions and tigers could walk on paths above you. The reptile house, zebras, and giraffes also were very active and made our visit memorable. Bathrooms were clean and the Zoo itself is well taken care of.

The one negative was the Lorikeet feeding. Have had much more fun in other Zoo's (Tampa comes to mind). There were very few Lorikeets, they give you barely a drop of food for them, and the experience is over in 30 seconds. I won't penalize the zoo in it's rating for this one bad experience, but be forewarned and skip this.

Food is easy to come by and there is a decent variety. Seating is a bit away from the main eating area so be sure to ask an employee where you can find a seat.

We purchased tickets and parking online. There is a large zoo parking garage on Girardi Ave. that was a block or so from the front entrance. There is always traffic in the area, but the garage offers easy access to I-76.

Kids of all ages will love this place.

“More than just animals”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

This zoo is layed out so well, and the flow is just superb.
The animals seem to be well cared for, and while we know they are not in their natural habitats, you get a sense that they are comfortable.

The staff is helpful and pleasant. The grounds clean and maintained.

“Rainy Day Disappointment”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

Yes, it was a rainy day, but we still visited the zoo. Parking was difficult in that we almost
walked farther from where we had to park then we did around the entire zoo. Remember this
was a rainy day, and it wasn't that busy. Many of the animals did not have inside viewing.
The zoo also seemed a little dirty.

“Great zoo!”
Reviewed July 19, 2014

This is definitely one of the best zoos I have been to in the country. The new exhibits where the animals can walk above you are pretty amazing. Big cats, lemurs, monkeys, and goats all have walkways they move freely through. We spend four hours here without even noticing the time.
