Owner description: A treasure of a red-brick neighborhood.

This used to be slums; now home to many upwardly mobile and monied families. Mansions and history galore. You can almost hear the drums.

So nice to walk around here after being subjected to so much heavy traffic and noise closer to Independence Hall. The cobblestone and brick streets are classic, and the homes are gorgeous. It makes you feel as if you're back in the 18th and 19th centuries.

We enjoyed an after dinner stroll in this serene, pretty and architecturally interesting residential neighborhood.

As the title says, this is a fine old historical neighborhood, The old Philly architecture is splendid and there are plenty of historical markers to give you quick lessons in Americana. There are restaurants and shops and some cobblestone streets. It also seems like one of the safer neighborhoods. I think if you want to buy or rent housing in Society Hill. you'd better bring along a fat checkbook.

Well worth a walkling tour to see the restored Georgian, Federal and Modern facades of the homes. It is close to Independance Hall.
