There's nothing to dislike about PAFA. The museum is stately, historical and classy. Well worth a visit.

The architecture of this building is fabulous but Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts has so much more to offer! Permanent collection includes Mary Cassatt and others who were students at the Academy.A wonderful and surprising collection - no one should miss.
Adjacent buildings gallery offers travelling exhibitions, as well as students work. If you love art - don't miss this gem!

We had exactly one hour to spare--so glad we spent it at PAFA! Such a well-balanced set of American works: portraiture, landscape, neoclassic sculpture, grand scenes--all beautifully lit and showcased to great advantage around the ornate staircase at the heart of the upstairs gallery of the main building and in the perfectly lit series of rooms that emanate from it.

Especially loved Cecelia Beaux's study in contrast, Last Days of Childhood. There's nothing like having the opportunity to appreciate paintings in person, unfortunately rare for me these days. Our visit put us in the right frame of mind for an equally artful dinner at Vernick's Food and Drink--beginning a truly fabulous weekend in Philly.

A gem in the city of art. Small but VERY interesting. Particularly of you join one of their knowledgeable guides. Every time we are in Philly we make sure to visit and every time find something new and interesting. Go, you won't be sorry.
