Born and bred in Philly and just I took my son there for the first time last year. Very cool to see how the pennies are made.

“We left giddy!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

This place was just cool! Luckily, we arrived right as the mint opened. Glad we did, because when we left two hours later, the line was around the block.

Upon entering, you go through security and up an escalator where there's an exhibit about the history of the mint (don't miss the eagle!). You then proceed down a long hall which shows you start to finish how coins are made. There is a combination of interactive exhibits and places where you can view the factory floor from above. It's mesmerizing watching the coins being made.

I didn't see any staff to ask questions of, but the signage was good enough that we didn't have to. I felt well-versed in coin making when we left!

“Very nice renovations!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012

The Mint in Philadelphia has recently completed some upgrades to the visitor's experience, and it shows! We visited here in April of 2011, and returned in November of 2012, and the differences were readily apparent. The Philadelphia Mint was already a better visitor experience than the Mint in Denver, and it has only improved. The different stops along the tour are very informative, and there's just something about standing there and watching the coins being "born." And the gift shop is a must! No, they don't let you take pictures inside, but can you really blame them? I will be sure to visit here again anytime I'm in Philadelphia.

When rebuilt, the history was brought from previous location. Have film and story of its history. See it functioning and visit shop for new and previous information and purchases.
