Owner description: As close to the proverbial money-tree as you'll get. The U.S. Mint turns out 1.5 million coins per hour, and you can see how they do it.

I have a 9 and 4 year old who are into coins and they loved this tour. There is a small museum with a 6 minute movie about the history of the mint and a few displays of coins and equipment but the bulk of self guided tour was of the factory from above. They had great interactive screens they could touch for information on the equipment or the process they were viewing. Of course they liked the gift shop too. You can buy a gold dipped PA state quarter for $5 as a great little momento. We went around 9am and there was no line - had the place pretty much to ourselves. Came back by at 3pm and there was a significant line outside.

Nice display. You walk over the production floor and see the steps for coins. Signs to show you things... Even how they first started. Interaction pieces along the way if you aren't a "reader" i.e. Kids, so be careful not to miss them.

Fun to see how our coins are made. My son loved it. He learned so much about the process through the self guided tour. Loved the gift shop too.

I wish I could be more enthusiastic but hey, it is what it is. Want to kill an hour? I'm an old time coin collector and my wife is into the new stuff that they stopped providing to the banks (I mean the new presidential dollar coins for her). She couldn't get satified by their gift shop, which should have had this stuff. The rest was a view of the factory that made the coins. It's OK. It's free. It's near everything else in Old City.

Watching the nation's coins being produced at the Philadelphia Mint is pretty cool, especially for kids.
