Love the layout of the building and the content but the price was a little expensive compared to the other area museums.

The museum tells the story of the American Jewish experience from 1654 to today.Start on the 4th floor and work your way down to the the first. It has 1,100 artifacts and also films. We had a wonderful docent ,Andy who gave our group the tour. The collection is also good for non Jews as well.It tells the story of American history and each floor tells amazing stories and brings to life the different years through interactive exhibitions.A very interesting building that I recommend seeing .The first gallery on the 4th floor tells the story from 1654 to 1880 the next floor 1880 to 1954 and floor 2 1945 to today.

The National Museum of American Jewish History is a great museum telling the immigration story of American Jews. This is not a Holocaust museum. There is something for all ages and everyone at this museum as you walk through the years since the first Jews arrived - just before the Catholics!

We took a docent tour which lasted over an hour. The Museum does exactly what its title implies-it is a study of the Jewish experience from the first Jewish settlers from Brazil in the 17th century to the present. And it does it well. The design of the building by the architect, James Polshek who has designed other major museums around the world including the Rose Center for Earth and Science provides a good back drop for the installations. The museum store is a particularly attractive one and contains a large selection of menorahs and mazuzzas.

This is an exceptional museum. It lays out the history of American Jewry in a fashion that draws you into the experience. I was thrilled by our good fortune to have the original George Washington letter to the Rhode Island synagogue on display. What an inspiration! I think that if the museum was in NY then many more people would be attending.
