Description: Earth is a brewpub located in the northwest of Philadelphia. We serve flatbread pizzas baked in a wood-burning oven. Our menu also includes salads, soups and appetizers. We have 11 beers on tap, four of which are brewed in-house. Wine is also served. Four wines are on draft, with a great variety by the glass and bottle. Cocktails are also available.

Nice atmosphere, reasonable prices, great dips and beer, worth the trip. Service was excellent as was the service. Although a drive from my home, it warrants a return visit !
Causal dress and unique decor make this a nice meeting place for friends wanting to dine, talk and enjoy the evening without being rushed

We stopped here on the way out of the city and we were so glad we did. The flatbread pizzas were awesome, we had the Joe (traditional) and the Meatatarian. The beers were excellent and the service was very friendly. If we lived closer, I would probably eat here once a week. Great casual atmosphere and welcoming environment.

Went on a Sunday night. Food, service was awesome. I'm a vegan, and they made something to my liking. Very happy to please. Live music and the beer as always, delicious!

Earth Bread & Brewery is a welcome addition to the gentrification of the Germantown/Mount Airy section of Philadelphia. Ten years ago, you wouldn't walk alone in this area; now you can stroll the main strip and get pretty much anything you need, nary a thought for your safety.

The building is a two-unit row home that was opened in the center. The front of the restaurant features tall windows that are coveted spots for people-watching. On entering, the open space on the bottom floor has an antique bar, in the back, beer fermentation tanks, and to the right, a dining area with a brick-igloo pizza oven where all of the flatbreads are cooked. A nice space in of itself - but in fact there is a whole second floor with yet another bar and seating for at least sixty people more.

The atmosphere on each level is busy; not overly noisy, but buzzing, always full, dimly lit and populated by bearded hipsters and bespectacled intellectual-types sipping craft brews, wines and whiskeys.

The main attraction here are the house brews and flatbread pizzas. Aside from some light appetizers, a cheese board, steamed edamami, and maybe a few salads, EB&B sticks to the mantra of simple, fresh and high quality. Peggy and Tom, the owners, have taken time to think their menu out and keep it simple.

You won't find too many things on the menu here, but it's refreshing - choosing is easy, and no matter what you get, it is always delicious. The "pizzas" are more like gourmet flatbreads, thin crust and baked to perfection in their brick oven with gourmet ingredients like caramelized onions, Gorgonzola cheese, nitrate-free sausages and pepperoni, free-range organic meats and when possible, locally sourced ingredients.

The house beers are the other draw. Brewmaster Tom spent time in France and California honing his beer making chops and I must say he's great at what he does. We've all been to a brew pub or two by now - most of the time you get sweet, thick, soupy, heavy-handed beers with no character. Tom's approach is more European in manner and he likes to play with ingredients for a subtle, delicious and unique brews like Saisons, Hickory Porters, Kolsch beer and Chocolate stout. And they taste like real beer, not glorified kit beers made by a hobbyist.

For those who want more, the menu also features "guest" beers, typically ones from local breweries and wines and whiskeys. The wine selection is simple but nicely picked. You'll find interesting choices like Carmenere and Rhone Valley reds, instead of the usual Yellow Tail. They feature some really high end Scotch and Bourbons too.

Service can be hit-or-miss but most of the time is speedy. At any given time, there are about ten young servers (some look like they're still kids) running around like crazy and often they seem confused. You may have one person take your order and another bring your food to you. It's a little disconnected, but you always get your order in the end and it's worth it.
