Owner description: This museum, located at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, is one of the finest medical history museums in America. The Mütter is a 19th century style cabinet museum displaying medical artifacts such as anatomical specimens and medical instruments. Marvel at the beauty and strangeness of the human body. The Mütter is home to many notorious exhibits including Harry Eastlack's skeleton, the Megacolon, the Soap Lady, and the Hyrtl Skull Collection. It's also the only place to have pieces of Einstein's brain on display. Admission to the museum also includes admission to the Thomson Art Gallery, featuring medical-themed art, and the Benjamin Rush Medicinal Plant Garden. A visit to the Mütter is unforgettable...prepare yourself to be disturbingly informed.

The building the museum is housed in is fairly large, but the museum itself is only a few rooms. The collection, although respectable, needs to be spread out over more square footage. The display cases are poorly lit, the rooms and items are cramped. The explanations of objects are too small and wordy (I'm 21 and my eyes were getting tired reading them). But the collection itself is so amazing. It just needs more space and this could be a much more enjoyable experience. Bathrooms were spotless, which is important in an attraction.

This is my favorite museum in the Philadelphia area. It is a small museum run by the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. It contains medical/genetic oddities collect through the years started by Dr. Mutter himself, including parts of him also! They have a ecclectic and varied amount of skulls, very well labeled and organized. They have a cell-phone guided tour, you call a number and punch in a the exhibit number and they tell you about the case! Pretty cool. They always have new and interesting exhibits which is what I look forward to mostly.. This is an experience that you won't regret or forget..

As a person in the medical field who enjoys learning about medical anomalies and interesting medical cases, this museum was not to be missed for me. I thought it was very interested but I was a little disappointed in the size. I wish it was bigger is all, there were a lot of people there and it was hard to see everything with so many people trying to look at and read the same things you are. And there is no photography permitted which is a bummer. Other than that, I feel this is one museum that is not to be missed, if you're into this kind of thing.

Tumors, body parts, fetus and other horror movie extras is how I would describe what you will see here. But like an accident on the side of the road you have to take a look. There are some things on display that need better descriptions: either no descriptions or tiny fonts where you couldn't really make it out. Either way it was interesting and if you're into anatomy this is most likely right up your alley. Obviously not a place for young children and I'm not sure if young teens would be all that interested in seeing this sort of thing. All kind of deals can be bought to package this museum with other sights, unless you are really fascinated by this kind of thing I would suggest this sort of package.

We went both ot the PENN Museum and this museum on the $20 combined ticket (which I heard is having a price increase.) It was worth it to see both. I thought that the Mutter was interesting, and a little weird, and a little gross, and a little crowded. There is an opportunity to learn and see things that you will likely never see before and maybe never want to see again. This museum is not for everyone so read about it before you go. We were glad we went and each saw something different that made an impression. Mine was the man that was carrying around his waste in his bowels by the gallons due to an illness. Haunting...
