Owner description: This museum, located at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, is one of the finest medical history museums in America. The Mütter is a 19th century style cabinet museum displaying medical artifacts such as anatomical specimens and medical instruments. Marvel at the beauty and strangeness of the human body. The Mütter is home to many notorious exhibits including Harry Eastlack's skeleton, the Megacolon, the Soap Lady, and the Hyrtl Skull Collection. It's also the only place to have pieces of Einstein's brain on display. Admission to the museum also includes admission to the Thomson Art Gallery, featuring medical-themed art, and the Benjamin Rush Medicinal Plant Garden. A visit to the Mütter is unforgettable...prepare yourself to be disturbingly informed.

Forget the Art Museum, Franklin Institute, etc. If you want unforgettable, this is the place to go. Know your kids though. Some will love it, others will leave immediately.

I was recommended to visit this museum that housed a collection of anatomic display of human body parts, organs, masks, and some of animals. I really enjoyed the blending of real stories and history (assassination of US presidents) and relating the body parts and bones involved. You do not need to be a medic to visit this place. I recommend you give yourself time to read through the descriptions. You'll need 2-3 hours if you're an avid. One thing to note, the museum uses a cell phone guide, visitors can call 215-525-1671 and type in the exhibition display number, so will be cheaper if you have a local cell phone or a plan that covers long distance calls.

Fabulous place to browse and discover many different specimens. Incredible opportunity to learn about the human body and many potential deformities. Probably not for the squeamish or young children. My teens absolutely loved it!

While it's not the place for everyone, especially the squeemish, it was eye opening to see the exhibits there. We brought our 7, 9 & 11 year old kids with us, they were ok with it, but I bet most wouldn't be. There probably isn't another place around where the average person can see that kind of medical / body stuff if not a doctor. We spent around two hours there, so you can plan another of the attractions to see around Philly in one day. I would go back to the Mutter Museum.

This was pretty cool. You learn a lot by wandering through.
Pros:
-Very Interesting
-Visually enticing
-Audio tour was free on your cellphone and interesting
-Lincoln exhibit was interesting
Cons:
-Some exhibits hard to see and/or read
-Some are too high and others too low
-If squeamish, may get a bit bothered by some of the examples
