Owner description: This museum, located at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, is one of the finest medical history museums in America. The Mütter is a 19th century style cabinet museum displaying medical artifacts such as anatomical specimens and medical instruments. Marvel at the beauty and strangeness of the human body. The Mütter is home to many notorious exhibits including Harry Eastlack's skeleton, the Megacolon, the Soap Lady, and the Hyrtl Skull Collection. It's also the only place to have pieces of Einstein's brain on display. Admission to the museum also includes admission to the Thomson Art Gallery, featuring medical-themed art, and the Benjamin Rush Medicinal Plant Garden. A visit to the Mütter is unforgettable...prepare yourself to be disturbingly informed.

I just happened upon this while walking back to my hotel from the museum. Very interesting and historical physician's tools. Information from Abe Lincoln autopsy, slides of Einstein's brain. I am not a scientific person, but I found the exhibits fascinating.

I was creeped but both kids (ages 12 & 20) absolutely loved it. Fascinating how medicine evolved and the techniques that were used to teach it.

This was a great way to spend an afternoon. The museum itself isn't large but there's plenty to look at that it could take 1-2 hours to get through. )Especially since you have to stop and stare the GIGANTIC colon for at least five minutes). If art museums aren't your thing, but you're still looking for something to impress you, the Mutter Museum can be that fix.

An interesting afternoon looking at oddities. While I initiated the visit, I also feel like "once is enough in my lifetime"!
