Walking, jogging, biking (they have rentals and an extensive trail), watching the rowers, taking in the sights, touring the homes, observing nature, and observing people...there's plenty of excitement and things to keep one's attention. Mixing some exercise with touring the buildings/museums provides a balanced and satisfying experience.

Fairmount Park is a great place to hike, bike, walk, run or jog. Whether your alone or with the family. The views are to die for, espeically in the fall. Boathouse run is another attraction worth visiting. Its so close to so many other tourist sites that we normally picnic there in between visiting other sites. Its very family friendly.

Excellent park with amazing walks and cycle paths. Lots of different sports played there.
Super river views.
Impossible to walk all around the park as it is enormous.

Fairmount Park is a great place to break up your history and art-hopping and stretch your legs, rent a bike, or just sit on a bench and watch the scullers from Boathouse Row burn off calories on your behalf. There is public art, there are beautiful plantings, and there are also museums and concert venues within the park's boundaries. The water is lovely! This is Philly's answer to Central Park or the Tuileries in Paris and, while it won't challenge those two, it serves Philadelhia's urban dwellers nicely.

Hired a bike and went out to Manyunk through Fairmount park trail.... it was a really well laid out trail, set up for hikers and bikers
Lovely way to see another part of Philadelphia as a tourist
Highly recommend for a relaxing afternoon
Manyunk township was a lovely surprise...eclectic collection of shops DEFINITELY worth exploring and lots of interesting looking restaurants
