It has beautiful views and fantastic features. The Philadelphia Zoo and the Mann Music Center are inside its boundries. It has the Schyulkill River running through it too so there is always activities like rowing to watch there.

This truly rivals Central Park. Fabulous riverside setting, much public art and statuary, and a great view of the skyline. Well worth the walk.

I'm not denying all of the wonders of the Park listed in the various reviews here. I am cautioning you to be careful about getting too fat and happy there late at night. Like many venues in Philadelphia, this place can be dangerous in spots, especially later at night and in sparsely attended areas. Someday, Mayor Nutter or someone will reduce significantly reduce the violent crime in Philly and I'll be able to stop writing cautionary reviews.

I love visiting Shofuso, the Japanese House in Fairmount Park where tea ceremonies and special exhibits are held. Take a tour through the lovely japanese house and sit a while by the pond, feeding the beaufuiful koi fish. A very relaxing and meditative experience to sit there enjoy the lovely view.

So many areas to ex[plore on foot or bike. The park goes along both sides of the river with bike/foot paths all over the place. Some interesting buildings/houses to explore. Visit Boathouse Row and the Waterworks to start your visit.
