This hotel is wonderfully located within walking distance to all major attractions: the Bettsy Ross House, Independence Hall, the Mint, and many other attractions and Restaurants. It is a very safe area of town where one can feel free to walk without worry.

Sheraton Society Hill is our favorite hotel in Philadelphia! Conveniently located in Society Hill, it's only a few minutes walk to Old City, South Street and all the historical sights you will ever need to see! The hotel is very easy to drive to, just a few turns off 1-95 with no city traffic to deal with.

What we liked:

Usually, I try for an upgrade, but the hotel was fully booked with 5 wedding parties over the weekend. I mentioned it was our Anniversary, hoping for an upgrade to the Club rooms. Sadly, they were all booked, but about 10 minutes after settling in to our room, the front desk sent up a complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolate cover strawberries! Upgrade!

Beds--very comfortable, bathroom clean and spacious!

Liked the fitness center--good number of cardio machines--complimentary earphones, towel service and get this--cold wet towels in the fridge--felt great after a morning after night out work-out.

Valet service--flipped the keys and they took care of everything.

Things we didn't like:

View--looked out over the arrival area. There are better views--but we booked at the last minute through Expedia.

The AC was loud and made gurgly water dripping sounds--the fan made a lot of noise. Small annoyance.

Parking is costly--$32 a night or $38 with in and out. There are other garages around that are cheaper.

Will definitely stay at this hotel every time we come to the city!

Room Tip: Book directly with Starwood for best rates or chance for upgrade!

Had a very enjoyable stay at the Sheraton Society Hill. The location was ideal to see Indepence Hall and the Liberty Bell. There was also numerous restaurants nearby (all within a block or two).

The front desk was also very friendly and the concierge was extremely helpful in arranging an airport shuttle and rental car.

Rooms were clean (although the carpet a bit dated), beds were comfortable and the room was very quiet despite the property's close proximity to many eateries and bars. An excellent choice for tourists in Philly!

We have recently returned home from our several-weeks-long road trip with our three kids. We were at the Society Hill Sheraton on 7/9/13. The location was awesome- right near Penn's Landing and just a short walk away from The Liberty Bell & Independence Hall. Even with our sluggish 6-yr-old in tow, we all were able to walk to the Liberty Bell & Independence Hall in just a few minutes. There are several nearby pubs & restaurants from which to choose so you needn't go far for a meal if you're travel weary. (We chose Rotten Ralph's- about a block or so away from the hotel.)

ROOM: We had an awful and uninspiring view of the hotel's roof from our particular room, but it was just an overnight pitstop and since we were planning to turn in fairly early anyway, we didn't bother asking to get moved. The room itself was wonderful-- very classic and nice. The beds were among the most comfortable in which we've ever slept- LOVED the beds! Coffee brewer in the room made individual cups of Starbucks coffee for my husband and I-- a nice touch.

STAFF: The valet, concierge and front desk staff were all very wonderful and accommodating- especially the fellow who was working the valet station early in the morning when we left around 6:30am on 7/10. The Starbucks in the lobby was great, too. The woman behind the counter was pleasant and made my espresso drink just the way I like it.

POOL: This is what kept me from giving a five-dot review for this hotel. And it's the only thing causing me to to not give 5 dots for cleanliness. The rooms were really clean, as was the rest of the hotel, but the pool was really bad! At first glance, it looked great. It has a really cool location on the 4th floor with glass ceilings that allow you to look up and see some of the city skyline as you swim or lounge in a chair. Had it been sunny when we were there, it would have undoubtedly made a cool little spot to swim. EXCEPT... the pool was incredibly cloudy. We're talking you could barely make out your feet in the bottom of the pool-- that kind of cloudy! There was no way I was putting my head underwater in that pool, so I just walked around as our kids swam. Well, I walked around in there until something brushed up against my legs in the water at one point and I discovered that it was a used band-aid. (And it didn't belong to us!) That gave me the total skeevies!! Gross!! It was then that I really regretted getting in the cloudy water despite what my gut had been trying to tell me when I first looked at the water. (My husband wanted to give the hotel the benefit of the doubt and said that he thought maybe it was a saltwater pool and that was why it was cloudy... but after a little research, we found out that it should still have been clear water, regardless of whether it was salt water or not. So there's no getting around the fact that this was just one seriously neglected pool.) We got out immediately after the band aid and found no less than THREE more band-aids stuck to the pool deck in various spots around the poolside. Okay, listen, we have three kids. We understand that kids get little scrapes and then wear a band-aid over it. And we get the fact that bandaids tend to come off in/around the pool area. A little yucky, but true. HOWEVER, we really felt that it was a sign that the pool was being truly neglected. Surely, staff doing routine pool checks would have been able to toss in the appropriate pool chemicals and also remove the offensive bandaids before they became an issue? How often can they be checking that pool water? Also, the hot tub was under some renovation/repair and was unusable. They had it covered with a blue tarp, but there were no other safety precautions taken to keep folks from tripping or falling into or around that area.

Honestly, we felt like that pool could not possibly have belonged to the same hotel we just came from! It's like we entered another dimension when we walked through the glass entry doors to the pool area... Sheraton @Society Hill, you have a beautiful hotel in an amazing location with wonderful staff... What gives with the sad, dirty pool?!? (We notice that management from the hotel made a note on another review here to say they are now having someone come in to care for the pool. We hope that the new pool crew happened after our July 9th stay... because if not, there's still an issue.)

Other than the pool, this was a great find and we really loved it!! We would stay again, for sure. But we would leave our swimsuits at home!

Dear spcialgirl,

We would first like to apologize for the condition of the pool. We take pride in our pool and that it is one of our special amenities that we offer all of our guests. We have learned from our guests it is something they enjoy and we make every attempt to keep the pool in the best condition. We will guarantee routine maintenance and cleaning. We are happy that you enjoyed the hotel and the surrounding area. We hope you can return in the near future to see that the pool is in great condition and to enjoy a truly wonderful stay.

We had my daughter's wedding at the Sheraton this past May. Our experience was very positive. The hotel is in walking distance of the church where we had the service. Since it was a beautiful day, it was lovely to walk through the old cobblestone streets to the reception. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside on the veranda while enjoying plentiful hors d'oeuvres included in our package. The food was very good and the wait staff- competent, attentive and courteous. Thank you Fran and all for a wonderful evening.

Great hotel. Good location. Well maintained. Speedy check in. The scale of this four-storey hotel suits Philadelphia's historic Society Hill neighbourhood perfectly. The interior courtyard is bright and creates a sense of luxury. The staff were friendly and efficient. Why can't all hotels be this good?

Room Tip: Starwood Preferred Guest rooms are far from the elevators and, therefore, nice and quiet.
