“Very nice, modern property... not much in Center City however”
Reviewed November 21, 2011

I spend one night at the Loews Philadelphia while on business and found it to be a clean, modern hotel with large well appointed rooms. Check in was easy, as was checkout, and the staff were helpful and courteous. The only drawback I found with this property was it's Center City location, there just isn't much in the area after hours by way of dining and night life.
Unless you have business in C. C. or just prefer the Loews chain, I would recommend the Omni Independence Park. They offer the same great service you expect from a high end hotel, but with a limitless choice of dining and entertainment options. The Loews-Philadelphia is a great hotel, unfortunately they can't do much to improve the location.

The Lowes occupies a former bank/financial services company headquarters one block from City Hall and the Convention Center. The hotel lobby has a dark art-deco vibe which can alternate between feeling cool when there are alot of people around, and eerie when no is around. There is an attached parking garage, but service can be slow in terms of retieving your car. The check in process was easy and and efficient and the front desk staff were very pleasant. The rooms are a fair size for a center city hotel, and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean and comfortable as well. Overall the room was fine, particularly for a business visit, but nothing special or noteworthy. The hallways do continue the art deco theme, and somewhat dark vibe that made us feel like we were in a Batman movie. Room service menu was not bad, and service was prompt.

This hotel is not far from many good restaurants but is a cab ride away from most attractions, making it a better choice as a business hotel than a vacation spot. Having stayed in Philadelphia many times, I would say there are better hotel alternatives for the price.

I stayed at Loews for two nights while attending a business conference. The room was spacious, quiet and tastefully designed. The bed was so comfortable I was afraid I'd oversleep. There was also a small desk in the room I could use for work. The staff was courteous and efficient. It definitely exceeded my expectations for a large hotel chain.

My wife and I stayed at the Loews for one of her medical conferences. We were traveling with our 4mo old daughter, and it was the first time we were staying in a hotel with her so we were a bit nervous. Overall we had a very good stay here and no major issues with our baby. The staff at check-in were very accommodating and welcoming...we explained that we had a number of special requests (crib, high floor/quiet room, refrigerator in room) and everything was taken care of. We were even upgraded to a club floor (without asking), which gave us access to the concierge floor. I cannot say enough how helpful this was...to have breakfast every morning prepared and accessible in the hotel (and free doesn't hurt), plus to have access to this floor in the afternoons/evenings was great. There are amazing views of the city from the higher floors, and we used the tables in the lounge to eat our take-out lunch/dinner, since going out with an infant is difficult. Throughout our stay all staff continued to provide this high level of service, and front desk staff really went above and beyond.

The hotel is in a great location for exploring the city, less then a block off of city hall, easy walking to Independence Hall, the Art Museum, Boathouse row, etc. And with Reading Terminal market around the corner, it was really easy and fun to get lunch each day.

The rooms were generally nice, although small and in need of some refreshing. A few things that were a bit disappointing about the rooms:
- definitely some cleanliness issues...i found a number of dust bunnies around the room, quite a bit on the beds unfortunately. Possibly coming from the air vents. It also looks like some parts of the room needed extra dusting or weren't touched in awhile.
- The beds were not comfortable at all. Very hard mattresses and disappointing pillows. For a "luxury" hotel, I really expected more here.
- The building is old, so the heating system was very loud one night...sounding like the pipes expanding/contracting. A little worrisome especially with a light-sleeping infant. Not much the hotel staff could do about this I'm sure, just a part of being in an old building. Still annoying though.
- The room in general looked a bit dated and worn. There were some broken fixtures in the bathroom, torn lampshades, worn-looking bedspreads and other minor things. Again, not enough to lodge a complaint while there, but for a luxury hotel we definitely expected better.

I would say that if my wife's employer were not picking up the tab for this stay (b/c of the conference), I would not be happy about paying the top dollar demanded by this hotel. It seems you are definitely paying for the location and the views.

We didn't go to the on-site restaurant but it was packed each night, looked like people were having a great time.

Again, overall we had a good stay, the staff were great and accommodating, the views were wonderful and the location very convenient. But I don't think you are getting good value for money based on the room quality.

Room Tip: Request a high floor; getting access to the club level is a great plus.

Had a saturday nite stay, called about 10:30 am while i was on my way to philadelphia and asked if early check in was available, i was told they had a room and would block it off for me. upon arriving, we valet parked to a very courteous staff. went to front desk and checked in, we were in our room from the time we parked our car in less than 5 minutes. room was spacious overlooking market street from the 15th floor. room was clean and fresh smelling. all common areas were well taken care of. on monday am, called the valet service, they had our vehicle ready. would stay here any time and plan to return.

Stayed for a wedding. The common areas are very nice and well kept and the staff is professional. But the rooms need serious updating. Furniture was dinged and paint chipped, upholstery seemed old and in need of a wash. Wasn't bad, but I expected more.

The Loews Philadelphia hotel is a beautiful transformation of a unique early modern style of building. The room was bright and spacious with high ceilings, massive windows and a fantastic high-floor view towards city hall and the city skyline. The bed was plush and comfortable and the bathroom was well done. Steps to the Reading Market and an enjoyable walk away from beautiful neighborhoods, great restaurants and the tourist highlights.
