Stayed many nights in various hotels in Philly. THis is one of the best places to stay. The rooms are nice, not over the top with luxury but nice. The service is where they distinguish themselves, that is clearly superior to the other five star lodgings in Philadelphia.

This weekend I returned to the Philadelphia Four Seasons with my fiance, a Georgetown MBA student, whose is currently studying the Four Seasons "brand" and her academic trajectory only increased our awareness.
The property is in good condition and upon our evening arrival the property was clean and elegant. Our room, called "moderate room" (as opposed to a Deluxe Room) was nothing special--a little more than the proverbial metropolitan Hyatt, but no splendor, no space, no special decor, just the comfy bed, the decent television, a chair, an ottoman, and a painting I will never remember.
The bathroom was, in all candor, disappointing. It had an old-world bath/shower combo without a separate walk-in shower, meaning that it was necessary to climb over the "hump." I cannot emphasize enough the blandness of the bathroom, the pale generic marble, the un-sumptuous towels, the lack of a vanity mirror, and, like the room, the smallness.
We had occasion to dine at The Swan twice, once for dinner, once for the somewhat reputable Sunday brunch. On both occasions, we found the food to be delicious--better than the proverbial metropolitan Hyatt. But you should be aware that the Zagat's characterization of the service is wrong. Most of the wait staff is attentive most of the time, but for Zagat's to say that this is a dining experience where the staff "anticipates your every need" is, at best, make-believe.
The cost for one night of the moderate room, two meals at the Swan, and the Romantic Package (meaning valet parking, a $55 meal credit, and seven chocolates of a quality analogous to Godiva's regular line) was about $700.00. Truth be told, I would say the experience was worth about $500.00.

Even though my husband, daughter (age 10) and I stayed in the lowest category of room ("moderate") we were treated like royalty. Despite a full house during the holiday season, every small request--for a curling iron, forgotten shaving cream, and even a pair of gym shorts so I could use the fitness center--were given prompt attention. More impressively, they anticipated needs before we voiced them. A pillow was slipped behind my daughter's back so she could dine more comfortably on a cushy but deep banquette. A plate of cookies and a balloon greeted us in our comfortable room and a "hangover" amenity of sparkling cider, madelines, and Vitamin Water showed up on New Year's Eve. The hotel's sleek black Audi chauffeured us to do dinner so we wouldn't have to wait for a cab. My one complaint is that the valet parking is far too expensive. $47 a night is ridiculous! Still, I wouldn't hesitate to return. For a treat, try The Fountain Room for dinner. Impeccable food and again, that unparalleled service.

I can only say thank you to the staff of the Four Seasons Philadelphia. I have been fortunate to travel and stay at some of the finest hotels in the world and I can say that my experience with the staff and service was far above anything that I had experienced previously. From check-in to check-out, the staff was courteous, prompt and smiling. It was as if they could anticipate our needs. Traveling with two small children is often tricky, especially during check-in, but this was not the case at the Four Seasons. My children were doted upon and even given a complimentary game to play with from the delightful woman who checked us in. The service in the restaurant was equally impressive and despite the chaos that may sometimes exist at a table with two children, the staff quickly adapted and was always friendly and helpful.

The decor of the hotel is quite beautiful, but a touch conservative. However, the rooms were immaculate and if you get a room facing the interior courtyard you will find it tremendously tranquil.

I would say that the Four Seasons Philadelphia stands as one of the shining stars in the hotel industry.

  • Liked — The service of the staff and cleanliness and order of the hotel
  • Disliked — The decor is a bit too conservative.

This is supposed to be a grande luxe establishment, but the hallway between the elevator and our room reeked of cleaning chemicals and smelled like the footbath at a public swimming pool. Modest hotel chains charge nothing for wi-fi these days, but this pricey outfit rips you off for a daily charge (the card on the desk says it's $10 a day, but it turns out to be $12). I called the manager to inquire about this curious business practice and she treated me as if I were some cheap rube who didn't appreciate the splendor of her establishment.

We were there for two nights. There are three elevators. One of them was permanently out of service the whole time. That doesn't seem so splendid to me. I don't mind paying top dollar but I expect top grade performance for it.

  • Liked — lobby flowers are nice
  • Disliked — attitude of the employees and the smell of the hallway carpets

We stayed just one night on our way to visit the New Jersey coast. Stayed in a Jr. Suite with a great view of the fountain square out front. The room was clean and everything worked and was in great shape.
The staff was friendly and helpful. We wanted to see the sites and they sold us ticket to the city tour which stops in front of the hotel and is well worth it.
Lobby and common areas were all clean and well kept.
We ate Sunday brunch at the hotel and I must say it was one of the best we ever experineced; everthing was delicious from sushi to beef wellington!
Well worth the price and a real pleasure!!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for the night of July 4th because we wanted to be close to the fireworks in downtown Philadelphia.

What a great idea - the hotel allowed us to check in early, and we were walking distance from all of the museums and Rittenhouse Square. We had a great dinner at the Swann restaurant before heading out to see the fireworks. We only had to walk a few blocks to get a great view! Also, it started to rain, so we were able to use the hotel's umbrellas instead of digging our own out of the car.

The next morning, we had breakfast at The Fountain restaurant - absolutely delicious, and a great way to experience the setting and service while avoiding the higher dinner prices. We also enjoyed a dip in the pool before checkout.

Our stay at the hotel was a great start to a long weekend in the region. We'll definitely be back!
