If you are a little adventurous and enjoy Greek food, you will love this little spot at 10th & Spruce in Philadelphia. It'a a BYOB, so be prepared to wait to be seated; diners like to hang out a little more than necessary! The noise level is quite loud; the later you go, the better it will be. They do take reservations, but tend to be delayed in getting tables turned over.
The food is Greek Cypriot; a little different than the usual greek salad and pastitio you may be used to. Go with friends so you can share different appetizers and entrees. We ordered 5 appetizers and 5 entrees for 6 people and it was plenty of food. Ask to sit at Bobby's table; he is a terrific waiter and very knowledgeable about the food. His suggestions were the best, and we had to stop short from licking the plates before they were taken away. The saganaki (fried cheese) was delicious, as were the different dips that night (baba ganoush, anchovy, beet spread). Entrees had interesting sides on the plate; pomegranate seeds and a lentil salad on one, delicious marinated veg on another. The lamb kofti was superb, as was the fish of the night; a Hawaiian butter fish that melted in your mouth. Our friends from NY, who eat out alot, were bowled over by the food. They brought really nice wines to complement the meal (we had 4 bottles for 6 people). All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience. Can't wait to go back!
