This restaurant has a great view of boathouse row and the sun setting over the Schuylkill River, so it has great potential. However, the night my wife and I went for dinner we got the sense of being rushed along. I guess this is because the seating on the outside deck with the view is in demand in nice weather. This, along with somewhat mediocre food that was overpriced made us feel disappointed with the experience. The staff were friendly enough, but there were so many of them, buzzing and flitting about, which made for a distracting time. However, this place is worth going to for the view and history alone, so if you set your expectations for food quality and price accordingly, you won't be that disappointed. And afterwards there a a number of romantic places to walk to, like the Art Museum and some scenic overlooks that will make your time memorable.

They accommodated us on short notice for lunch, seating us at a very pleasant terrace on a beautiful day. Great atmosphere, historic location. Staff was very friendly though meal moved at a very leisurely pace (i.e., pretty slow)...calming if you have the time. I ordered burger which was very nice, particularly for the price. My partner ordered the lobster roll which was disappointing. Very small portion and quality seemed inconsistent with everything else. Clearly would recommend this restaurant if you are visiting the art museums or Fairmount Park.

Six of us decided to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday at Water Works. Right from the start I felt it might be somewhat disappointing, the establishment looked dated & dirty. We took a trip to the bar to see how it looked and it was terrible - the fish tank behind the bar was cloudy and the bar area looked dingy. We skipped having drinks there.

The waiter Kem was terrible and had a bad attitude. He didn't revisit the table after our dinner was served to check and see whether or not everything was good -- he forgot to bring a side for one us and we mentioned it and when he did bring it, he never even apologized for the error. Our dinners took 75 minutes to arrive. The Filet Mignon was sub-par.

The manger was sweating profusely when he stopped at our table and wanted to chit-chat.

Of course we picked an outside table, however the decor was tainted there as well, it was extremely uncomfortable temperature wise, as the fans did absolutely nothing. The people that frequent this place and keep this one on the map are either ignorant to how a good restaurant should perform or they
have never been to a decent restaurant. This place needs an entire makeover, from the decor to the staff.

A chain like Bone Fish or Carrabbas would have bee a better choice sadly enough to say. Make other reservations, don't waste your time or money. And the view is not that awesome.

My wife and I recently celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary @ the Water Works Restaurant Sunday brunch and were both impressed with the selection, quality and service.

The $40 price per person may sound a bit high but once you've indulged in the experience, you'll see that it's worth every penny. There was a nice selection of fresh raw oysters, large fresh shrimp and mussels along with the salad bar to get things started. The poppy seed salad dressing was unique. You could order "made to order" crepes, omelets or Belgian waffles. They had most anything you could imagine to add to either of these items. We tried a lump crab omelet with cheese which was light and delicious....you just let them know how many eggs and what you desire.

Fresh carved ham off the bone and prime rib were very good...prime rib was a little overdone even in the middle (medium)....I like rare though. The ham was excellent and a true fresh ham on the bone...not your traditional Easter style ham. There were also large beef tips mixed with onions and peppers which were outstanding....rare pieces mixed in.

Honestly, we only tried a few of the selections available since we had a long day ahead in the city but you could spent the afternoon here trying the various items offered. Far outshines any other Sunday Brunch restaurants in the area. Service was excellent, as well. Not typical for a buffet. Enjoy!
