Clever idea creating a restaurant from a former water works. Nice location close to the Philadelphia Museum of Art with a great view of the Schuylkill River and 'Boathouse Row' creating a destination eatery. Has valet parking. Nicest tables are those directly overlooking the river. The service was friendly and efficient. We were there with a large party and considering this challenge, the service was extraordinarily good.
The food was presumably intended to be gourmet, but fell short of this vision. Nonetheless, the food was satisfactory. Reportedly the brunch is much better. The wine list was adequate, but wine prices on the high side (multiple of 2.5 to 3 over retail prices.) All things considered a good venue for a splurge night out.

The Philadelphia water works provides an excellent example of how one of the first municipal water works operated. If you or your family have an interest for a clear easily understood presentation and displays of operation it is well worth the trip. For those not interested in the mechanics, the Water works offers excellent views of the river and of downtown. Nearby gardens and biking and walking paths along the river and park enhance the overall experience

My husband and I were in Philly for a vacation and ate lunch at the Water Works restaurant after a day at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I had the house salad which was very fresh and tasty. My husband had the lobster salad sandwich which was also very good. The service was fair but the restaurant manager went around to all of the tables to ensure everyone was satisfied which was nice. The view of the river is exceptional.

My husband and I visited for brunch on a beautiful Sunday morning. We had a table on the patio with views of the River and Boathouse Row - what a perfect setting! The food was excellent - so much variety of both breakfast and lunch items as well as desserts. They had a crepe stations to make crepes to order - so good! The day was beautiful - not hot or humid - but they still had the fans going on the patio on so that my coffee was cold before they finished pouring it. I was not amused. Not only did I have to deal with the cold wind but it ruined part of my experience. Luckily I had filled up on coffee before arriving. Additionally, my mimosa was very watery. The food is pricey but I would return to try another meal.

Recently had dinner at the Waterworks & it was very good. We were seated on the patio overlooking the river as the sun was setting & it was a deligtful night. Food presentation was suberb but as the other reviewers noted--the bronzino was not quite as advertised. That being said--it was very good as were the sides. Would highly recomnend you give it a try. Desserts were outstanding.
