“Beautiful - it takes you back in time”
Reviewed December 24, 2012

The Academy of Music is simply beautiful. The opera house origins are evident in the grand design. The acoustics are okay (nothing compared to the newer Kimmel Center.) The main problem is the seating is really tight, even the box seats.

We enjoyed the PA Ballet's The Nutcracker. It is better than it was a few years ago, and I am hoping the Ballet Company has turned around.

“Excellent Venue for Shows”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Thanks to the Philadelphia Venues (especially those associated with the Kimmel Center), my family and I continue to see Broadway Shows regularly. Sure, we go to New York once in a while, usually once a year. But,...we see many more shows because of the handy Philadelphia location. Most recently, we saw 'War Horse' there on the last day of the show (December 2nd). It was an excellent show; unique and creative. Thus, it did appease the artistic need that I have in me....for a while. Had excellent seats in the front row balcony, from which the view was very good, although more on the side than I have ever sat,...and even there, the seats were good. I don't think there is really an awful seat in the place. I rate this venue at 4.6, but gave it a 5.

Tip: Rush tickets go on sale 2 hours before the show for $30 for the Broadway Series and $10 for others. These tickets must be purchased at the location of the show, in this case at the Academy of Music.

“Old Opera House”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

While the operas I have attended have been very good, the seats are very expensive and there are many seats with obstructed views.

“Awesome venue”

Beautiful - acoustically and aesthetically and in the quality of productions here. You can't do better on the east coast of the US.

“Great venue for a show”
Reviewed December 4, 2012 via mobile

We saw a show, Warhorse, at the theater. What a gorgeous place. The interior is opulent and nostalgic to an age when theater reigned! It was built in 1857. You can feel the history as you sit there and look around thinking of the who's who of historical figures who have attended shows in the venue. Looking around, there didn't seem to be many bad seats (Maybe some with limited view). We were center stage in the Parquet section and the sight lines and acoustics were incredible.
