We were on a week-long sightseeing trip so maybe that has something to do with it, but in hindsight this would've been one to skip. You can see Ben's grave site from the outside and can wander the graveyard for free, so if you feel the need do that. But I don't think the guided tour was worth much.

I stopped by the Christ Church as my friends and I were walking around the Old City. We thought we would stop by and have a quick look at the inside, as the church is so beautiful from the outside. The style is very clean and crisp white on the inside. As we came in, a guide was talking to a couple about the church. He was very welcoming and included us in the conversation straight away, telling us to ask any questions we liked. We had a casual conversation about the people buried inside the church, He was so interesting and clearly has a real passion for history and sharing it with people. We ended up staying in a lot longer than planned, but we came out of the church really inspired by the guide. Well worth a stop. Entrance is free but there is a donation box in the hall.

Our group included two teens (13 and 15) who really liked visiting here. The tour guide was very informative and geared his talk toward the kids without talking down to them. We sat in Washington's family pew and also Betsy Ross's. Tour was free, with donations accepted. Grave stones outside were also interesting.

We really enjoyed visiting Christ Church. The volunteers inside were filled with information to share. And the story teller outside was WONDERFUL!

Christ Church was commissioned by King George in the late 17th century. This is the church where many members who signed the Declaration of Independence worshipped including the Continetal Congress. Pews rented by the likes of George Washington, John Adams, Betsy Ross, Lafayette, etc are still completely intact. The baptismal font of William Penn is in the church and was 300 years old when is was bought to the colonies (aka 600+ years old). Christ Church is found on 2nd Street between Filbert and Church Streets. FYI....if you are looking for the cemetary of Christ Church where Ben Franklin and many other Colonial heroes are buried it is actually 3 blocks away at 5th and Arch Streets.

See www.christchurchphila.org for infomation on tours. If you really want the experience we had. Arrive for the 9am or 11am Sunday worship service and asked to be seated in George Washington's or Ben Franklin's private pews. If you arrive by car for the service they will allow you to park right in front of the church at no cost and it's very convenient.

There is a gift shop in the rear of Christ Church. The only rest rooms are located in the adjacent adminstrative building, behind the church. The church is beautifully maintained the parish people are very friendly.
