The tickets to independence hall are free, but you do have to pick them up before going on the tour. Tickets can be picked up at the Independence Hall Vistors Center starting at 8:30am the day of the tour. Try to get there right at 8:30 or you may not get the time that you are looking for. On really busy days you also run the risk of not getting tickets at all if you arrive later in the morning. You can also pay a convenience feel of $1.50 per ticket and have them reserved for you. If you have your heart set on a specific day and time for your tour, I would recommend this option. The nominal fee they charge to reserve tickets is well worth the piece of mind that you did not make the trip all the way there only to find out they ran out of tickets prior to your arrival.
It is important to note that the Liberty Bell is no longer housed in Independence Hall. You have to go to a separate building to view the liberty bell. When bus tours come through this building can get very crowded.
The independence hall tour itself is very informative. They give you the history behind the various rooms of the building and discuss the signing of the declaration of independence. Independence Hall is a must see for any American. It is humbling to walk in the footsteps of the men that founded our country.
