We went to spend the last long weekend (MLK) in Philly, ostensibly to see "We Will Rock You" and we had great fun (both at the show and the Phila Museum of Fine Art). We also checked out Reading Terminal and we absolutely loved it. It is vibrant, full of color and aroma of good food. First, you park across the street and you can have your parking stub validated. This is very helpful and will save you a huge amount of parking fees. (From $29 to $4 for us). You cross the street and enter another world of happy people and good food.
We had Philly cheesesteaks and I will not recommend a particular place because they were all good. You can easily find a seat at the center of all the commotion:), listen to some musicians, and even have your shoes shined. The restrooms are CLEAN! Go to the back, turn left :). While there, we checked out the veggies, Amish popcorn and jellies (bought some), ate some cookies...BTW, Sundays--the Amish do not do business --so no pretzels and no jellies...but there are still so many more choices.
The plus for us was when there was a couple who chose to get married in the market and they encouraged people to continue walking around them. How cool is that?
While in Philly, do not miss out the Philadelphia Museum of Fine Art. The Europeans are there--Van Gogh, Manet, Monet, Cezanne, Renoir and the East Asian exhibit was truly impressive. And catch a Broadway show...
We stayed outside the city, by the airport, to save money on hotel.
Philly is not just about seeing the Liberty Bell, we truly had a great time.
