“all the essentials, and lots of the frills”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

The market began as a way to get goods from the country to people in Philadelphia, using the Reading railroad, which terminated in the headhouse above. The trains are now routed through a tunnel (connecting with the Pennsylvania railroad line) the goods come mainly by truck, and the headhouse is part of the convention center space. Still, the city folk need things from the country, and the market thrives on the produce and prepared foods from Lancaster, Bucks County, and places never considered back in the 19th century (great Thai and Mexican food.) It is authentic, fun, safe, and very tasty.TerminiBrothers italian pastries, Mueller's chocolates, Salumerica deli, and of course several cheesesteak venues.Great place to eat when at the convention center and to pick up real atmosphere.

“Everything you need in Philadelphia”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

Fresh handmade local food items, Amish meats and other foodstuffs, gourmet cheeses, handmade products you will never see anywhere else. You could come here every day for a month and still see something you missed. No better produce anywhere, and right in downtown Philadelphia. No visit is complete without seeing the Reading Market.

“A day enjoying Philadelphia”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

Reading Market is a great place to buy fresh food; chicken, meat, ham and cheeses. We enjoyed the day in the market just walking around and tasting everything that looked appealing and believe me everything looked and tasted as good or better as it looks. We ate at Hershel's and dessert at the Metropolitan Bakery. It is a must stop whenever in Philadelphia!
The only set back was the price we pay for parking.

“more than worth visiting!”

what a sympathetic and animated place to have a good and quick lunch, especially if you attend conferences at the conference and exhibition center next-door.

“Something for everyone to eat and lots more”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

Wow - my daughter and I were staying at the Marriott and just wanted a quick bite to eat. She is very particular about what she will eat - must be vegetarian, must be all natural, etc.. We found lots of options for her and I was able to get great coffee and find lots of things I like as well. My daughter was delighted to see Amish people working there (she had read about them but never seen any before). We also were able to find a few local items to give as gifts when we returned home. This is a definite must see. Unfortunately, it closes early, so we weren't able to eat dinner there or visit again before we left. Location is right out the back door of the Marriott which was really convenient.
