“Good--But Hotel Shows Wear and Tear”
Reviewed March 10, 2006

Very easy access to the Board Street subway line, which is a big plus in terms of location. Was able to take the Subway to the Independence Park area in less than 10 minutes.

Room was very comfortable, especially since I stayed here for one night with a nasty cold. (Purchased 2 bottles of water+Robitussin for a total of $18 at the gift shop--but that's the cost of hotel life). Sweet Dreams bed was very comfortable with 4 pillows and the Sweet Dreams duvet. Received a Deluxe room that was a bit bigger than the standard room, though not by much. Views were stunning of the surrounding Ave. of the Arts area. Also, very easy check-in, including the signature cookies, which unlike other DT hotels, came out warm.

Didn't have the opportunity to try breakfast in light of my condition.

Biggest complaint was with the wear and tear of the room. Cracks in the ceiling made the room look rather unsightly. Also, bathroom was rather small--any bathroom where you must close the door to use it means it's way to small. Also, bathroom had obvious wear and tear.

Had a great one night stay at the Doubletree on 3/4. Decent rate, easy check-in, a room on the penthouse floor. A couple negative things were instantly remedied and after seeing a show and going to dinner, came back to the room to find a note of apology for the inconveniences with an invitation to free brunch. Great location and employees were always friendly - would stay again.

Pulled into the driveway of the parking lot, where a uniformed employee was standing behind three cars, all without drivers. We assumed they were waiting for the valet to park them, but were told valet parking was full, and we should pull through & park ourselves. The doorman seemed rather frustrated & spoke curtly to us. When checking in, we were told the parking garage was not part of the hotel, and the desk employee argued with my partner as to whether she represented the garage also (note the hotel valet service parks cars in this garage, the doorman stands in the entrance of it, and the garage fees can be charged to the room.) The "romance package" came with a bottle of wine (never delivered) and a buffet breakfast (unremarkable except for the bad decaf and good orange juice.) The bed was very comfortable, and there were 6 pillows on the bed, plenty for those who like to hug one when sleeping. Although there was a card on a hangar indicating a robe was included with the room, there was no robe. The view was nice from the 26th floor room, there were two very large windows facing the east and south, showing off some of the downtown murals and row houses.

Initially, I was quite happy with the Doubletree. The beds were the most comfy hotel beds I've ever slept in, the service was pretty good and it had all the amenities I needed.

Then I woke up and wanted a shower. The first morning, the water was lukewarm, so I managed to get by. The second morning, it was too cold to contemplate trying. And it was in the 20's outside. Is it really too much to ask to have a hot shower? After various explanations and a visit from the hotel engineer, the reason for this is? They don't know. The customer service staff was okay - professional, but completely unsympathetic, bordering on sarcastic. The general manager returned my phone call after I arrived home and decided to give me a partial refund. I will never stay there again. At least not if I want a shower!

I booked this hotel via Hotwire for $68/night for a girlfriend getaway night for 2/18/06. What a steal. Check-in (2 hours early without issue) was fine and we got some excellent warm cookies that Doubletree is famous for, which is always a bonus!

Room was fine, 2 queen sized beds, VERY comfortable beds, some of the best I have ever slept in at a hotel (second, actually, only to the Ritz.) Room was very clean as well. Our view wasn't great, but for $68/night, I wasn't complaining one bit. Bathroom was average-sized, very clean as well. Neutrogena toiletries.

Parking is $18/night, typical of CC Philly prices. Location is excellent - right on the Avenue of the Arts with a multitude of restaurants/bars to choose from, all within walking distance. They also have a fitness center, small indoor pool and a hot tub.

We decided to eat breakfast out at the Marathon Grill 2 blocks away (excellent choice), but the Academy Cafe did look good and the prices were reasonable
for a hotel in the middle of a major city. Also, the room service menu looked reasonably priced for that feature as well.

The bellmen were friendly, holding my bags after check-out today for a couple of hours and retrieving without issue and with a smile. Hotel was sold out, so great service in that particular scenario means a lot.

Great choice, good hotel, amazing rate - hope I am lucky enough to secure it on Hotwire again for such a great bargain!

Took my mother, sister and a friend to Philly for a concert at the Wachovia Center. Stayed at the Doubletree on the night of 1/27/06. Front desk staff was very friendly and changed our room location so we could have a better view. Bellhop has worked at that hotel for 23 years. He was so helpful and gave our group coupons for more chocolate chip cookies!

Room was well appointed and clean. We had 2 queen size beds (so comfortable) instead of the normal 2 double beds. Nice when you're traveling with 4 people. We heard literally no noise from other rooms. There was a crack in the ceiling from one end of the room to the other, but it may have just been in the plaster.

Cabs were easy to get, and fare to the Wachovia Center was $12. Lots of restaurants in the area. Try Monks on 16th and Spruce. Great mussels and a huge assortment of beer.

When we returned from the concert at midnight, the hotel bar and kitchen were still open for a nightcap and snack.

Overall a great hotel on Broad Street/Avenue of the Arts. Very safe area and good value. Will stay again.

Our recent stay at the Doubletree was PERFECT !
Arrived 12/30 for a two night stay . The desk staff promptly checked us in even though we arrived early.

the room was extermely clean and comfortable with a beautiful view.
Breakfast was great as well as lite fare that is sreved in the Standing O bistro.
TheHotel was fully booked, hosting a wedding and a huge New Years eve party. In spite of the number of guests the hotel staff was the BEST !! The desk staff, the bellmen, housekeeping ,waiters....EVERYONE was so friendly and pleasant!!! That really made my stay GREAT !
