The options for Marriott loyalists are limited in downtown Philadelphia, making this property a frequent destination for me. It's gigantic and always packed, which can be either a positive or a negative, depending on your tastes. The lobby is constantly bustling, the bar is always vibrant -- it's a fun vibe, if you're into that scene. The hotel is also in a fantastic location for touring the city, especially its proximity to the wonderful Reading Terminal Market.
But there are still enough problems with the place to make it just average, at best. The valet parking situation is a nightmare and has been for as long as I've been staying here. Don't even bother bringing a car. It'll just cause you headaches trying to retrieve it. During my last visit, I literally sat in the driveway for 15 minutes trying to navigate my way out. I was completely blocked in. It was a disaster.
Other than that, the service is generally decent. The sheer size of the place means that occasionally things slip through cracks. I've had days where the housekeeping skipped over my room, for instance.
All in all, I'll keep staying here, partially because there aren't many choices. I'd rather something else, though.
