This hotel is very convenient if you are attending a conference at the Philadelphia Conference Center. There is a bridge that connects the hotel to the center or you can take a short walk outside. The hotel is very much like other Marriotts so consistent with the brand here. The room is comfortable and newly refreshed. There is a gym and pool that are very useable but not luxurious. The bar and restaurant are a bit too institutional and are fine if you need a quick bite.

I got this hotel through Priceline. At first, I was disappointed because I bid for a 4* hotel and this qualified as a 3.5* at most places. Let me start with a comparison. Also through priceline I got a 5* NH hotel at Amsterdam that compared to this Marriot would be at most a 3*, maybe a 2.5*.

Now regarding this hotel: Location is awesome for touristing. In front of Macy's, next to the train station (convenient if you are arriving with train or plane or plan to catch a Phillies/Flyers game), walkable distance from a lot of bars/restaurants, from Rittenhouse square. The room itself is also very nice and spacious, the beds are comfortable. I had a nice view from my bed too. The amenities could have been better, though.

The pool area is nice, but would had benefited of a hot tub. Gym area is well equipped. Front desk staff not really helpful for that level of stars, but nothing to serious. My major complain must be room service. The food is HORRIBLE. Please, don't make that mistake.

Room Tip: Ask for a high level room with a view!

Location is the only positive... That being said I would urge visitors to stay at a surrounding hotel and walk a couple of blocks to the convention center. Although it is connected it probably will just make your walk longer. The Kimpton hotels are amazing!! Lowes, ritz, etc.

The service is horrible, the food quality disgusting, had to wait until 8pm for a room and then they lost our bags.

And it just went on and on from there...

Avoid!!!

A lot of Marriotts are very serviceable and feature friendly customer service, but they do not feel that upscale. This Marriott is the exception. It feels what a downtown upscale hotel should feel like. It has a very inviting lobby bar that is bustling with activity, the rooms are well maintained with contemporary bedding and in-room safes and the Concierge Lounge (for Marriott Gold and Platinum members) is very good--big area and with a wide variety of surprisingly good food. The hotel also has a great location. Key landmarks like the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall are only a few blocks away.

Because the hotel is so big, the customer service (while polite and pleasant) does not feel as personable / personal as other Marriott brand hotels.

If you are here for a convention, bring your spouse. This place is perfectly located for both the Convention Center and for all the historical sites of Philadelphia. Walk to China Town or a short cab ride to all the famous Cheesesteak places. Across from the Convention Center is a huge food court indoor market. Many of the town houses in the surrounding area are crammed with great places to eat and shop.

The hotel is well staffed and ready to handle massive convention traffic. Typical of a convention hotel, it isn't cheap when something is going on, but good value compared to the lesser places that just jack up their prices when they can.

The executive lounge on the top floor isn't much and the staff there wasn't great, but hang out in the town anyway. I'm giving this place 5 stars not because it is a great hotel, but because it does the job and is in a great place with lots to offer within walking distance.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor. The elevators work well, so go for the view.
