I am a foodie & I love dim sum. I have always wanted to try soup dumplings but never had the opportunity. When I wanted to go to Philly's Chinatown after a recent museum visit, my husband was reluctant because of dim sum palaces in the area that, to be polite, he deemed less-than-clean. A timely article in the local newspaper about the best of Chinatown restaurants was enough to steer us to Dim Sum Garden & away from the places my husband refused to go back to.
What a difference! The restaurant was clean, the food hot, fresh & made-to-order & the open kitchen was reassuring. The steamed soup dumplings were fantastic as was the pork with sauce noodles. Everything we ate, with the exception of the shrimp dumplings, was exceptional. Our complaint about the shrimp dumplings were that they were made with baby shrimp & were basically tasteless. We also had bubble tea, duck, chicken dumplings, General Tso's chicken, & sweet bean cakes. My daughter, who's an extremely picky eater, loved the dumplings. We cannot wait to go back & try more of the menu!
P.S. - As of our January 2014 visit, the restaurant is cash-only. If you don't go for the dumplings, at least go for the noodles.
