Sit at the bar and enjoy yourself...this place will make you feel like home. The schmiter is AWESOME.....TRY IT. The ball park does not make them as good as here.

We were spending a couple weeks housesitting in Chestnut Hill, and looked forward to trying the many cafes and restaurants there. But, after lunch at McNally's Tavern, we found ourselves returning again and again. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and good food, especially the soups and crab cakes. Our last day, we decided to split the special as portions are large. Instead of the waitress bringing the order and an extra plate, we were given two nice individual (generous) servings.

A refreshingly 'homey' place in an area known more for 'upscale' boutiques and restaurants.

Just tried this place for the first time a few weekends ago. Having lived in this area I'd heard tons about the schmitter, and that it came from a local place. Desperate for a quick but good meal we gave it a shot and loved it. I had the schmitter which is the real deal, wife had the crab cake sandwich which was also very good. We started with two different types fo soup, and both were outstanding (corn chowder, and meatball primavera). Also finished by sharing a piece of their chocolate cake which was surprisingly good despite it's pedestrian appearance. Fair warning here- this is a tavern with that kind of atmosphere- it's warm and old fashioned. Not tons of seating either so you may have to wait.

How about fresh beers and proper pour? A great Guinness or a Harp. homemade soups are spectacular, best snapper soup anywhere. Schmitter is a rocking sandwich. Tiny place is a favorite in the area.

Love the Schmitter, the prime rib special, the crab cake special, all the homemade soups. And the homemade chocolate cake is sublime. The carrot cake is a close second. This is a favorite place to go for a great, but simple, homemade tavern food. A terrific value and very friendly.
