We just got back from spending 2 nights there for our anniversary. I'm not sure if it was the time of year or not but our experience was very poor. The young woman at check-in didn't know anything and I completely blame management for this. She never mentioned anything about the contential breakfast which we learned at check-out was included in the price. She didn't let us know that the dining room and bar were not open at all during our stay. We had expected them to be open. When I asked for our cabin key she said it was unlocked. It wasn't. The fireplace was all set with wood and a little newspaper but no extra paper and the wood was very hard to start. I finally called for more paper after we'd almost used up our paper towels. We did have our own private hot tub which we loved. However, the community hot tub was right on the other side of our bedroom and the motor kept turning off and on all night which woke us up. Plus we could hear every word being said. When the young woman brought more newspaper for the fire place I asked her where the switch was to turn off our hot tub and she said she didn't know because she thought it always stayed on. We wanted it turned off because it was noisey. After doing a little investigating we did find the switch. A different clerk at check-out said they don't take American Express, which is what I gave them at check-in, but the young woman accepted it and somehow ran it through or didn't know what to do when it wasn't accepted. My husband asked at check-out why the woman accepted it and all she said is that "she was trying to figure that out herself"!

My wife and I, along with our five year old boy, stayed at Captain Whidbey this summer. It was a very good experience. We were traveling from one part of the state to the other or we might have attempted to stay longer. The price was very reasonable for the atmosphere. It was not necessarily kid friendly - it certainly seemed more attuned to adults (there wasn't a kids menu in the restaurant, but they were more than happy to accomodate our needs). It seemed ideal for business groups wanting a retreat. Yet, my wife and I feel very compelled to come back and just stay there for a couple of days. There are very few Inns in the country that I can actually stay that. I do not spend my time writing reviews for places - in fact, probably the first time I've ever felt the need to do so, but I highly recommend the Inn. It was really a wonderful experience.

Plus:
Very charming, romantic inn...just what we were looking for in our 1st trip to Whidbey Island. Very clean hotel. We stayed in the cottage and it was lovely. The food was tremendously fabulous, the wait staff and bartender extremely cordial and kind.

Delta:
It was suggested on several websites to try and "stay green" so we agreed to use only public transportation on our trip. We wasted nearly an entire day getting out to the island and ultimately our destination. The hotel clerk was not too helpful with regards to arranging transportation. Bikes were available to rent however; considering the price we paid for our cottage, this should have been included. Additionally, when asking the front clerk about how to get around, bus schedules, etc. there was really never an answer. Just "sorry". When we left, we had arranged a trip on the island bus to get back to the ferry but we had to wait outside for it, in the rain. The hotel owner drove right by us and never stopped. I felt he could have gone the extra mile and checked to see if we were okay or, perhaps even give us a ride into town (3 - 5 miles). Too far to walk.

My husband & I did a "spur of the Moment" trip up to Whidbey Island ~ one night stay, The Inn states two night minimum ~ but they were more than willing to book us for one night. The room was clean, simple with a lovely lagoon view and a peak at Penn Sound, very peaceful and quiet. Bed was comfortable with down duvet. We ate at the Inn ~ separate management ~ $$$ ~ but !!! EXCELLANT !!! Well worth the cost. Best seafood! Excellant continental breakfast in the AM ~ included in the cost of the room. ~ Room rates ranged from $60's on up ~ we went with the $140 range and were more than satisfied. We will definitely keep the Inn on our list of "Special Places" to return to.

loved the captain whidbey inn. exactly what we were hoping for - rustic, comfortable, amazing view. we booked a smaller garden view room but opted for an upgrade to water view room in the main inn that became available. got a decent AAA discount, around $150 (plus taxes, etc). room was very comfortable - OUTSTANDING bed and linens - quality stuff. we've stayed at a lot of b&b's with much less quality going into this type of rustic decor. room wasn't huge but had room enough for a couch and dresser and small sink in room. note: the garden view rooms are indeed very small - just big enough for the bed and sink and not much else, but if you're on a budget but still want to experience the place and aren't too high maintenance about how much space you need, it's still completely acceptable. bathroom is shared with other rooms on the floor, which i was at first weary of, but there are two (at least in the lady's room) very private stalls and double sink area with thick hand towels and soaps, etc - all fixtures upgraded, nothing cheap feeling. the inn keepers and later a different host were all extremely nice and hospitable; they helped us find a place for dinner* since the inn's restaurant was closed that night for a private party (wedding). our room ended up being over the restaurant, and we were able to hear the festivities through the floor, but everyone was out by 10 and we had no trouble sleeping. the other guests were also quiet and we didn't have any problems with noise. lovely to wake up to penn cove right out the window. breakfast downstairs was buffet style with bagels, cereals, yogurt, coffee, juice, etc.

would recommend.

*as for dinner - we ended up driving over to Front street and eating at Kim's Cafe right on the water at the end of a wharf. a lot of asian dishes and also american food - he had a seafood style Tom Kai soup (Thai) and i had fish and chips. delicious and the owners and their children working there were really sweet and accommodating.

A lovely, quaint Inn in Coupeville on Whidbey Island, where stepping into the past is a reality. The rooms are small but delightfull and clean with simple but good quality dressing. The grounds are beautifully kept and lovely walks around them and the lagoon is somewhat relaxing as you listen to birdsong. Definately a place to visit. A visit to the old Coupeville main street is a mustsee with it's many interesting shops and restaurants.

A group of 18 from my ski club spent a wonderful weekend here. The venue was quaint and rustic with flowers and trees and the lagoon rooms were spacious. The large deck was perfect for our BBQ. However, The true charm of the place was the staff. Anything we needed they saw to. No request too small. Everyone had a fabulous time, and the Friday night dinner in the Inn was wonderful.
