“My Special Place”

I have been to this site twice because I find it so beautiful and stunning. There is a special feeling of serenity I get when I visit.
The history of this place's evolution is very interesting I love how it is a sacred site for Native Americans, as it should be, and I'm glad the State respects that. The walking trails around the Monument are great if you love to walk. Steep in some places but they are very good about ensuring your safety. Good accommodations, friendly staff. It was mind blowing to watch people rappel up the monument.

“Super Geography”

This is such a great, out of the way stop. Well worth the drive off of the interstate. The site is very clean and the staff is knowledgeable. Their Junior Ranger program was age-appropriate.

“Loved it and came back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2014

Second time here and walked the perimeter hike this time, after 20 or so miles to reach from the main highway. It was winter hours, but the visitor center was still open, though I would call first. This is the time to go, almost no one else there and plenty of room. Nominal fee to the park. The center is informational and historical. I love The Tower. It is majestic, serene, quiet and a wonderful natural wonder. Each angle gives a brand new perspective. I watched the prairie dogs before and after to see them scurry. The park is lovely and the winding road provides a view all the way around before reaching the center and perimeter trail. I stayed until dusk to see The Tower in setting sunlight. Spectacular. At night I saw headlamps of climbers hopefully making their way down, but it was a pretty sight also. You CAN see it in an hour, but why. That's why I recommend several hours visit. Will hope to return to do more trails.

“Quite a Sight!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2014

Truly something to see if you are going to be near. There really isn't anything else fairly close to see but only a couple hours from the Deadwood area. Can be seen from many miles away, but the only way to appreciate it is to drive up as far as you can, and then take the hikes around. An all asphalt path, but a little challenge at times. Probably 1 - 2 hrs total walk time depending upon ability. The Rock has a different look (surface) on each of it's 4 sides. Many people climb it to this day and a few make it all the way to the top. Was the country's 1st National Monument.

“A Natural Wonder”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2013

This is one place you need to visit. It's just amazing to see what nature can do, The native Americans view it as a religious experience. I would call it a natural anomaly.
