Our family of three made a last minute trip at the end of Sep. 2007 to Mammoth to enjoy the fall aspen foliage. We were fortunate enough to stay at the Edelweiss Lodge. It is indeed a very pet-friendly place since human and canine guests each receive a welcome basket which includes fresh-baked cookies. The homemade gingerbread spice cookies are especially yummy. Proprietors Marta and Keith both went beyond the call of duty to make us feel welcome and give us local information on where to walk the dog, find peak foliage, etc. Note that Marta also runs a small pet-sitting business which would be very convenient for guests with dogs who visit for skiing. However, I never heard any barking. Edelweiss Lodge is located beyond the proliferating condos on Old Mammoth Road, in a peaceful neighborhood which is a 5 minutes walk from Mammoth Creek. From the exterior, the lodge is alpine rustic, with some cabins and a 4-plex suite building. Our suite was well-equipped with a wood stove (not required for heating), living room, kitchen (full size fridge), bath, and separate king bedroom. WiFi internet access was free, and the room had satellite or cable TV. The king bed was covered with a handmade quilt, and the sofabed was supplied with an additional foam pad . We enjoyed a special fall rate of $84 per night (+$15 pet fee - which included treats, dog bowls, covers for furniture, and a sleeping pad). In our family's opinion , Edelweiss Lodge is a great deal, and we look forward to returning in the future.
