We enjoyed the spacious room, the cleanliness, the kind staff, and location but thought their "hot tub" was horrendous. It smelled bad, was EXTREMELY noisy, and only was open at night. Overall, we would definitely go back!

Helpful staff, Clean, pleasent rooms, plenty of parking, Restaurants nearby, Really, really needs an elevator. If you are over 65, stay on the first floor.

I'm staying at the Mammoth Creek Inn as I write this. My ten year old daughter and her friend are sleeping in the same room with us because when we complained about the defective sofa bed on the main floor we were told that the manager looked at it and "that's just the way it is." Just the way it is is skewed at a forty five degree angle so that the girls were actually sliding off the bed to the floor. The whole thing started off badly, actually. After a seven hour drive we were made to wait by a slacker looking guy who stayed on the phone for ten minutes with a prospective guest who finally decided not to book. (The "manager" he referred us to later also seemed to be in his mid twenties and like he could care less). The reason I'm awake right now is that the plumbing on the other side of the wall is rattling so horrendously that it woke us all up, and I can't get back to sleep. I'm not going to bother to tell the desk, I'm sure "that's just the way it is." Accomodations are fine but nothing special. The view is nice but I'm willing to bet the view is nice from a lot of the places up here. I found this place on Trip Advisor and this is the first time it's let us down.

We stayed here for two nights in October 2005. Mammoth Lakes is a fantastic loctation and the Mammoth Inn a good base. The rooms are clean, but the heaters a little vigorous and the plumbing in the bathroom a bit dubious. There is no breakfast included in the room price, but there are plenty of places to eat nearby. The staff are friendly and there is plenty of free parking. I'd certainly consider staying here again if I were in the area.

We stayed here for one night only en route from Las Vegas to Yosemite. Would have loved to have stayed longer. It was lovely.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and very comfy.

Would love to go back - definately recommend.

After reading all the positive reviews on this site about Mammoth Creek Inn we were very surprised to find that this property was NOTHING SPECIAL. Granted the bed was very comfortable and the room reasonably clean but everything else was just so so. This was our last stop on a 16 day road trip and I will have to say that this property was our least favorite place we stayed. We relay very heavily on reviews on the TripAdvisor site but the previous reviews about Mammoth Creek Inn just don't match what you will experience during your stay. One last note breakfast is NOT included with your room rate.....you will have to go across the street if you want breakfast, at an additional charge.

I must concur from a previous critic that Heather can indeed bring magic to this inn. Even when the inn was nearly completely booked, she managed to accommodate an 88-year old woman on a lower floor the following day.

After spending three days at the inn, a clearer picture emerges. First of all, the reception is very hospitable and cordial, from the greeting to the carefully explained "rules." The so-called amenities backets are so tempting and so expensive! Be careful not to make souvenirs of those bath products unless you wish to add to your otherwise reasonable bill.

As the temperature is almost always either moderate or cold in Mammoth, a hot spell will undoubtedly mean a hot room, as there is little ventilation in the rooms--ask for a fan. At least ten of the rooms are small and overlook either a parking lot or the side of the building next to the inn. Ask for a large room with sitting area. All rooms have supremely comfortable beds.

Noise is a problem. The rooms with lovely views of the mountains are tempered by the traffic on Old Mammoth Road. If the weather is warm, you will need to leave the windows open with the resulting traffic. If you are on the first floor, you will hear whoever is above you. (We were privy to either a cyclops or gnome who tromped with heavy, slow, deliberate steps!)

As I mentioned earlier, Heather is a wonderful hostess and will strive to set up full itineraries for you. Mammoth Lakes is a charming alternative to congested Yosemite, and you know you can return to a wonderful little resort town that would like to become the Aspen of N. California.

Breakfasts vary in quality. One morning we were served fresh fruit and very nicely made oatmeal. On another morning, we were served spoiled apples and gruel straight out of a Dickens novel.

My final observation consists of a certain lack of security in the rooms. There is no dead bolt or peep hole, a requirement fo AAA certification (I have written the management directly about this), which this inn should adopt.

So by all means stay here but be aware of a few shortcomings and always say hi to Heather! MJM
