“Terrific Choice !!”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

We were lucky enough to stay at this Inn for 5 days recently to attend a wedding in Mammoth. You cannot beat the price, location, or service! We booked the Deluxe Loft and it was huge and comfortable, and had terrific mountain views. The manager, Michael, truly does go out of his way every day to be sure that his clients are pleased. On the day of the wedding, we opted to try to book a taxi instead of drive. There were no taxi's available that day, so Michael offered to drive us there and and pick us up in the hotel Surburban on his DAY OFF! Sylvia was at the front desk on that Saturday and made sure that the arrangement for the ride was set in stone. Talk about customer service! We came as strangers and left as friends. Cannot wait to come back here next summer!!

Their family suite with kitchen was the perfect place for a home base for three generations to stay while enjoying beautiful Mammoth and all it has to offer to those who love the outdoors. Plyaground across the street for the kids, work out room for the motivated, hiking trails from the front door, great breakfast across the street.

For some reason we've always had trouble in Mammoth with our hotel stays. The Motel 6 is absolutely horrible, and other places have been pretty bad as well, for various reasons. However, this time, we tried this place, based on TripAdvisor reviews, and I think we found a hit. First off, it's off the main drag, which is really nice. Second, it's close to Vons and a lot of good restaurants, but at the end of this stuff, so it's in a pretty nice, quiet area. There is an open space area, park, and walking path adjacent to the property, so it feels much less cramped, as many of the other ones are along the main road.

The place seems to have been fairly recently renovated, in fact, we smelled paint in the hall, and even saw some blue tape on one of the light fixtures, haha. Normally that would not be good, but I applaud them for keeping the place looking nice. The room was a decent size, but the bathroom was quite large. Also, the bathroom was also newly renovated, so everything seemed clean, which I highly appreciate. The huge King bed was also very comfortable, and seemed to be rather new. We were on the side opposite the open space, and we overlooked a large parking lot and a liquor store. It was fine, because Mammoth was not "rocking" when we went, so the town was fairly tame. Mammoth can get rowdy during certain times of the year, but when we stayed, it was fine.

Some minor negatives would be the pretty terrible TV reception, squeaky floors, and lack of elevators/ramps. I guess a handicapped person could not stay here, but we didn't inquire whether they truly did have an elevator or ramp (though we didn't see any). It was a pain in the butt to lug all our stuff up the stairs from the parking lot to the lobby, then up the stairs again to our second floor room. I was kind of surprised...what if people are coming for a long stay and have a 50-lb luggage? It would really suck trying to fight that up stairs. We stayed one night, so there were a lot of trips back and forth each day, which was annoying. Also, though it was quiet when we were there, this is basically an old building with a fresh update. So we could hear our neighbors, and people walking around. I would NOT recommend the first floor if you don't want to hear people walking around upstairs (I know, because our floor squeaked when we walked on it).

Overall, our stay was nice, thus the high rating. I liked the updating, the room was worth what we paid for, as opposed to most places in Mammoth. A Benjamin is pretty much the standard rate for the most basic place, and this was the first time I felt it was money well spent.

Room Tip: There is a pool table on a 3rd floor "bonus room", and a LOT of amenities downstairs. We...

I chose this hotel from the reviews on Tripadvisor and was not disappointed. The outside of the hotel is deceptive as it looks similar to a motel but once inside the difference was clear to see. The staff were very warm and friendly and made us feel very welcome. We had one of the loft bedrooms which was on two levels and was very spacious. Well fitted out kitchen and large living room with a bathroom. The living room converted into a bedroom if required. Upstairs was another very large bedroom and bathroom. This was the 'loft' area and as previous reviews have mentioned, this area gets very hot in the summer despite the use of a ceiling fan and a stand alone fan. It could really benefit from air conditioning. Access onto the balcony was good and on the first night we had a visit from a bear which came up close to the hotel. Breakfast was fine. Overall an enjoyable stay and would love to return in the winter sometime.

So room 9...hmmmmmmm, sad to report but this charming little hotel now appears as if somebody is sucking every last penny out of it. Not happy that for 4 months there has been a chewed up plastic lunchable food container under the stairs. also, somebody dumped out a hundred cigarettes from ashtray in planter box, advised them 4 months ago and again last week, nobody will rake up trash that house keeping obviously dumps in planter box. All flowers dead. South forest area strewn with trash. Room 9 doors missing on sink cabinet, rusty pipes exposed. Reefer squealing loud, had to unplug. Upstairs balcony has paint chips falling everywhere, one hour with putty knife and a gallon of paint would fix. jacuzzi downstairs is ice cold and non op. Same with steam room. Afternoon coffee was leftover from morning, guy said he could not heat it. It was very hot and only way to cool room was to open windows which are on highway. Check in Guy Ryan very nice but didnt know where anything was, didnt know where Vons was, but he was a nice young man. My 17 years of mammoth creek inn have now ended for all time.

Room Tip: Stay at motel 6. We left and it was fantastic with good service, very clean.

For our first trip to Mammoth Lakes we decided not to stay at a chain hotel as we normally do, but stay at the Mammoth Creek Inn.
Checking in was quick. But, this is the first time I checked in sitting down at a desk. I thought it was helpful the person checking us in asked about our plans while in Mammoth Lakes and would help by answering any questions about the area.
Our room was on the second floor and was very nice. My wife liked the updated bathroom and the fluffy robes. Yes, there is no air conditioning, but we found it was nice to leave the windows open. It was getting down into the 40's at night when we were there and would cool the room down nicely. The view out our window was of the building next door. This did not bother us since we did not come to Mammoth to look out of our bedroom window.
For us, the wi-fi only worked in the common sitting areas on the first and second floor.
Breakfast was in the basement. As others have stated the offerings were limited and the area was unattended. We were lucky because the people who were there earlier picked up after themselves.
We did enjoy our stay at the Mammoth Creek Inn and would return.
