“Good value”
Reviewed August 21, 2008

We needed a place to stay for a Friday night in August. Most hotels/motels/condos we found were either booked or required a two-night stay. Sierra Lodge looked like the best value for the price paid, and it indeed was for me, my wife, and our two children.

Our room (218 or 228) was spacious and had two queen beds, fold-out sofa, microwave, refrigerator, fan (no air conditioning) and TV. The day we arrived was hotter than normal, so air conditioning would have been nice. From what I understand, however, most lodging in Mammoth lakes doesn't have A/C. The room was clean and in good order. The free continental breakfast consisted of coffee, orange juice (no milk), bagels, apples, and danishes.

It was located on the main drag through town and within a half mile of gas stations, a Rite-Aid Pharmacy, and a number of shops and restaurants. It was also right across a small street from Angel's Restaurant and the poorly-reviewed Travelodge.

Spent two nights here as bookends for hiking and camping in the Sierras. For a budget accomodation you cannot do better: minifridge, microwave, clean room, a quaint balcony, friendly staff, all top notch. The next time we visit the Sierras, this will definitely be our base.

the sierra lodge is a great hotel for the price.the rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable.the customer service was good.george in particular was very helpful and friendly.it was an overall good experience.also the decor was actually more modern than pictured on the website, the room also had more space than i had expected.

  • Liked — value,clean,customer service
  • Disliked — no coffee maker in the room.but the free continental breakfast had more than enough coffee.

I liked the Sierra Lodge. I liked the price especially. I was getting a pain in my face shelling out mega bucks to stay in Santa Monica and Yosemite. I was delighted to find a good standard accommodation for 25euro pp per night. I did only stay the one night but it was just fine.

The staff are a bit 'ordinary' but in a nice way. They won't babble on about how wondeful it is to have you sir etc etc like the pretentious hotels in vegas for example but they seem fair and decent. Its a kinda down to earth feel about it. I can't imagine them being rude really. Like when i booked online i had problems with the booking going through and the desk guy ?Rob replied to my email and was really chatty like we had been old friends for years. It may sound silly but in bigger hotels you get an automated email back and it's all very impersonal.

Room with twin beds was huge. There was a desk and chairs and a good sized telly. I had a balcony also. The toilet was the usal size. The kitchette was small but they thoughtfully include washing up liquid and kitchen roll. I've stayed full apartments in europe and you never get those things. No wayyy. So this is good. Microwave too included. What more do you want? The decor is okay -nothing you could call 'beautiful'.

The breakfast as seems the norm in the US is [--]. I think there was one or two choices of food item like bakery items or something. No cereal

I would highly recommend this hotel for its good sized room, good amenities and excellent value.

How do spell rude? G-E-O-R-G-E. The front desk people are so rude it's unimaginable! Their website totally misrepresents the "lodge". You would be better off staying at the Motel 6. "Tastefully decorated" rooms? Not even close to even decorated. Unless you call stained bedspreads, stained couches, chipped wood furniture and peach laminate... decorated? Kitchenette? No, your kitchenette is a counter. No coffee pot or any of the other kithcen ammenities. The decal on the door of the room stated the last time the fire department inspected the room was 1989. I think that was when the room was" tastefully decorated" and the last time it was cleaned. We pulled back the sheets and we found hair! Yes, the small curly ones! Gross. We called the front desk and they said, "We’ll then just leave". So we did (at least they didn’t charge us for the 30 minutes we were in the room). We went to the Holiday Inn for only $10 more and it was awesome!

Stayed at the lodge for two nights during the week...it was clean, middle of town - shuttle stop is right out front, hot tub was right outside room. Room 111 is perfect; a little loud - near the stairs but the spa is right off the balcony. Room 110 is good too! I will stay there again!

Stayed here for 3 nights in a double with my dad. The location is not bad, just a few minutes away by bus to Canyon Lodge which is where we mainly skiied/snowboarded. Right next door to Angel's restaurant which has good food for a good price - got take out there last night. Their menu is in the Menu magazine that you can get at the front desk. The outdoor hot tub is small, but fine. The breakfast is simple - bagels, coffee, tea, oj, danishes and apples. The heater works great, a little too well as we got really hot in the room. The place is pretty oldish, but it was good enough for us. There is a kitchenette with plates and silverware which was nice. They also provide you with a locker to put your skiis/snowboard. Overall - not bad, but nothing fancy.
